Elaine passed peacefully, following her many health challenges, at Southlake Regional Health Centre at the age of 62 after her battle with lung cancer. Her family is very proud of her and love her dearly. We are thankful that her Catholic faith gave her strength and encouragement.
When Elaine was born, she was a lovely surprise and gift to her parents and two older brothers. From the start she was spunky and determined, full of life, with a strong sense of humour and empathy for others. That spirit continued into her later years. Professionally, Elaine began her working years as a typist but quickly moved up to the head of the steno pool. She did a variety of other occupations throughout her marriage and raising a family. In her 40’s, she went on to study at George Brown College graduating as a Human Services Counsellor. After graduation, she worked at the North Bay Regional Health Centre as an Addictions Counsellor.
Elaine is predeceased by her parents Mary (Dorothy) Lannigan and Theodule (Ted) Richard and infant daughter Katie Elliot. She is survived by her ex-husband Danny Elliot, her children David (Sarah) Elliot, Sara (Sean Patrick) Naughton and Amy (Jamie) Smith, brothers Ed (Alice) Richard and Roy Richard (Peter Tse), and double cousin Gail Richard - affectionately known as her ‘sista’. Elaine was very proud of her children and grandchildren and cherished them all: Moire (Anthony) Kosmalski, Aonghus and Judith Cronin, Marigold, Alfie, Flossie and Silvia Elliot, Feilim and Sadbh Naughton, Landon and Foster Smith. And very soon she was expecting a great grandchild!
Finally, we must say how grateful we are as a family for the dedicated staff at Southlake & North Bay Regional Health Centres, Belinda’s Place and the continuous ministry of the Salvation Army. Their tireless efforts allowed Elaine to have the time and strength to be with us in her final days.
A memorial mass for Elaine will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 70 Toronto Street N, Uxbridge, Ontario L9P1C7.
Following the memorial mass will be an urn burial at 11:15 AM at Sunderland Cemetery, Hwy #12, Sunderland, Ontario.
