We feel incredibly blessed to have had our dad for 90 years; more so, that he was in good health for 87 of those years. He suffered his first stroke in December of 2015 and continued to decline (health-wise) during 2016. In November of 2016, he went into long term care. Although he suffered from confusion and speech loss, he amazingly retained his memory. He recognized everyone almost to the end. While it was incredibly hard for us to have him living in long term care, there were also many laughs and funny stories that we will treasure from that part of his life. Dad truly had a unique character, especially evidenced during this portion of his life as he was well-known to the staff of Sherwood Court for his energy and drive to simply “keep moving” (with his walker). His strength of will was amazing.
The most important thing for dad was family. He was always happiest while hanging with family and friends. There was no person more loyal than him. During his health decline, mom’s Alzheimer progressed which added another dimension of geriatric living for the two of them.
We want to thank all of our friends and family with whom who we have shared our “geriatric parents’” stories, and laughed, vented, and cried as they were told. We miss him beyond words. Even in his senior years dad was still a focal point in our lives, one that leaves us with many great memories for us to continually cherish and recall as we move forward in our lives.
We love you dad.
Mark and Susan
