Gordon Joseph Scott Ivany

Born in Clarenville, Newfoundland on October 1, 1935, Gordon left his beloved island in 1960 for a position with CN Rail in Frobisher Bay now Iqaluit, Nunavut. There he met the love of his life, Huguette Brais. After meeting at a Valentine's Day dance in 1961 and a brief courtship, they married in February 1962.

Life with CN took them to many places: Montreal, QC where eldest daughter Nathalie Ivany-Becchetti (Mauro) was born. Kapuskasing, ON where second daughter Danik Presacco (Steve) was born. Chandler, QC on the Gaspé Coast where their son Patrick Ivany was born. After a few more relocations Gordon retired while living in Montreal, a city he loved. Then came a final move to Aurora, ON to be closer to his children. Throughout retirement, the vagabond life being very much in his heart, he travelled with his beloved wife across Canada, as well as to Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, California, Florida, and on several European and Caribbean cruises.

Gordon was a poet at heart, and his family holds fond memories of all the poems he wrote.

He is survived by his wife Huguette Ivany, his three children, his grandchildren Eric Presacco (Munam) and Mark Presacco (Amy) and his step-grandson Alexander (Maegan).

Gordon spent the last three years of his life at Newmarket Health Centre - Davis Residence. Here, he was extremely well taken care of and loved by his caregiving team. The family extends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude.

A Memorial Service will take place at 1 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South in Aurora, ON.
