It will undoubtedly be some time before I and the rest of the CDS staff and faculty grow used to Gordie being gone. As teachers, we often advise our students to take on responsibility not just willingly, but eagerly, and I can think of no finer role model in this regard than Gordie. To say he will be missed is an understatement.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Gord's passing earlier this week. My deepest sympathies to his family. He spoke so highly of his daughters, Becky and Amanda. Such a caring family man who looked after us all at CDS too. Whether it was a broken bookshelf to mend or rescue of a bat in the schoolhouse library, Gord was always there to respond to any emergency with a smile. As others have mentioned, he was a humble and gentle giant to many of us.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, You are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

We were shocked to hear of Gord's passing and are thinking of you during this difficult time. Ten years have past since I retired from CDS and our last kid graduated; but the memories of Gord's constant support, work ethic and infectious sense of humour are still vivid in our minds. Gord set a high standard and role modeled how to be a good citizen to students, parents, faculty and staff. It was a privilege to work with Gord - he will not be forgotten. With sympathy to Cathy, Amanda and Becky and the CDS community.

Gord, your talent for building and repair extended beyond bricks, mortar and lumber to human beings. You could raise spirits, mend hearts and renovate minds, sometimes with an artistry that left us completely unaware that we had been changed. You made us better people, literally and figuratively, in ways that challenge us to continue to do the same for others. You are a soul carpenter, Gord. And although I will miss you everyday, I take comfort in knowing I can see your handiwork in me and in so many that I know and love.

I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken to hear about Mr. Lytle's passing.  He was one of the hardest working and dedicated people i know.  He played a major role in making CDS what it is today.  His smiles and good mornings made my day, everyday and the CDS family will never be the same.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.  We miss you so much Mr. Lytle.

I remember that Gord got a real kick out of going up on the roof of the Junior School to return the rogue basketballs, baseballs and tennis balls to the kids waiting down below. An instant and enduring hero. Gord's warmth, compassion, good humour, and that twinkle in his eye, will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. With sympathy to his family and the entire CDS community.

I am so, so sorry to hear about Gord. He  was a great friend to me while I was teaching at CDS... he was a friend to everyone. Always so humble, gentle, honest, caring and giving, he would do anything he could to help out...helped me build a fence and a kitchen....just to be nice. Such a terrific guy.

I feel deeply saddened at the news of Gord's passing.  He was such a kind and thoughtful man.  Always taking the time to have a quick chat and ask after my family whenever I bumped into him. It was heartbreaking to hear the news that such a cornerstone figure of CDS, Mr. Gord Lytle, had passed away. During my time at CDS, there was never a moment where I didn't see Gord hard at work. Despite his busy schedule, he would always take the time to say a friendly hello in the hallways or engage in passionate discussions about our beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Gord was an incredible person to see every day at work and I'm going to miss him a tremendous amount.  I only knew him for three years, but it feels like I've known him for much longer than that, a credit to the friendly person he was.

We've been parents at Country Day School for almost 20 years. Good Lytle was an institution and his name is synonymous with kindness, loyalty and truth. He bailed out our kids on more than one occasion and we will truly miss his gentle demeanour.

Our family became members of the CDS community 18 years ago and Gord was there from day one.  He became a constant in the lives of not only our four children, but of all of the children at CDS.

So often we wander away from former friends taking different paths but then we hear of the loss of one of these former friends and sincere sadness comes over us.

He was a good person and a heck of a baseball coach.

Gord was such a gentle, kind and wise man. His love for his family ran deep. He was a good friend to us all, and he will be missed so very, very much. CDS will not be the same without his quiet strength and anchoring presence. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family now and always.

I spent 8 years as a student getting to enjoy his smile and laugh almost daily and had the extra pleasure or working along side Gord for 2 summers as well. Though we will miss him, we will never forget him.
