Passed away peacefully on Saturday March 10th, 2012 in his 91st year at Southlake hospital in Newmarket, Ontario. Doug is survived by his children Alastair (Denise) of Halifax NS, Ian (Susan) of Aurora ON and Elspeth (Matt Atkinson) of Minneapolis MN. Doug was especially loved by his grandchildren Fiona and Grahame Buchanan, Cameron and Andrew Buchanan and Blythe and Diedre Atkinson, and his great granddaughter Moira. He was predeceased by his wife Vera and his sister Moyra.
Doug was a veteran of WWII serving as a fighter pilot in the Fleet Air Arm aboard HMS Victorious and Formidable and participating in operations Torch (North Africa), Husky (Sicily) and Avalanche (Salerno). After the war Doug worked as an engineer at various plants until his retirement from Pilkington Brothers as Chief Engineer in 1985.
The family will be holding a memorial service in Scotland this autumn. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Alzheimer Society in his name would be appreciated.
