It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our Mother, Janet Wilson (nee Mitchell) peacefully on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, at 96 years young. Janet was a beloved Wife, Mother, Nana, Great-Nana, Sister and Aunt, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Gordon B. Wilson, by her parents Roy and Olive Mitchell, and siblings Miriam, Evelyn, Roy, Bill and Rod.
Janet leaves behind her children, Gordon (Nancy), Laura (Stewart), Susan, John (Lesley) and Alexandria (Danny), her grandchildren Hayley, Brett, Hilary, Mitchell, Emily, Kaitlyn, Matthew (Ausma), Juliette, Johnnie, Harrison, Graham, Campbell, Marilyn, Lauren and John, three great grandchildren and many well loved nieces and nephews.
Janet was born and raised in Cochrane, Ontario, as one of six siblings. Growing up, she found joy in simple pleasures, always managing to have fun and occasionally getting into some mischief. Her zest for life was evident from a young age, and she embraced every opportunity for laughter and adventure.
Winning many awards for her talents in swimming and singing, Janet's journey led her to Toronto, where she pursued a career in nursing at Toronto East General Hospital. It was there that she crossed paths with her future husband, and together they embarked on a remarkable 68-year journey.
As a devoted mother, Janet poured her heart into raising five children, creating a warm and loving home where family was the center of her world. Her love for her children and her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
Summers in Muskoka held a special place in Janet's heart, where she enjoyed playing golf and tennis with dear friends, and swimming across the bay. She served as President of the Ladies Golf at M.L.G & C.C for two years. She loved a cool night, always reminding those around her that she was indeed a true northern girl. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she became known for crafting the best Sunday night dinners, bringing the family together with delicious meals and good conversations.
Janet was not only committed to her family but also dedicated to making a positive impact in the community. She played a pivotal role in the establishment of Polo for Heart and selflessly volunteered with CARD and the Heart and Stroke Foundation, showcasing her compassion for others.
A lover of music and dance, Janet brought joy to those around her. Her fondness for singing and dancing illuminated every room, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to share those moments with her. Janet's vibrant spirit and unwavering love will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration during this difficult time.

A memorial service will take place for Janet on April 2nd, 2024, All Saints Anglican Church, 12935 Keele St, King City, On at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at Hogan’s Inn, 12998 Keele St, King City.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice , or put on a favourite Tony Bennett song and think of her.
