Passed away on Friday, December 21, at Southlake Regional Health Centre, age 81.
Adored wife of Tom, cherished sister of Lorna McGuinness (Peter), devoted
stepmother to Sheila Yates (John Puusa) and beloved aunt to Christine Haylock and
Bonnie Sutherland (Corey). June is deeply missed by her sister-in-law Pat, and is
predeceased by her brother George and parents William (Bill) and Dorothy (née
Hoover).
June was born in Toronto, and spent her childhood with her younger siblings in the
Beaches and North York. Later, she lived on her own in Etobicoke. It was at home
that her lifelong love for music was first cultivated on the piano; she was always
surrounded by music, whether through her participation in choir, playing the piano,
or her enthusiasm for classical, church and show music (with added doses of Willie
Nelson and Paul Simon). June was our musician.
June began work in 1953 at Shell Canada as a stenographer. When she retired in 1987
she was the Executive Assistant to the VP Human Resources. Along the way she earned
her BA (1983) from Atkinson College, York University. When she retired from Shell
June began a freelance career that included providing administrative support for
several business associations. In later life she provided her volunteer skills as a
newsletter editor to the Aurora United Church, the Aurora Community Arboretum and
edited the Volunteer Newsletter at Southlake Regional Health Centre.
If you knew June, you knew about her passion for life. That was expressed through
her lifelong dedication to photography. She was an early member of the Don Mills
Camera Club and became a skilled instructor and judge of competitions. Ultimately,
it was photography that lead her to her husband Tom, whom she married in 1994 and
at which time they moved to Aurora. Together they travelled much of North America
with cameras in hand.
June was PARTICULAR about what mattered to her. She lived her life with bravery and
love, filling it with beautiful flowers, laughter, fine hospitality, and the love
of family and friends. This is what mattered to her, and we will forever miss her
presence in our lives.
A Memorial Service will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora on Friday January 25, 2019 at 10:30am. The Reverend Andy Comar officiating.
