

Kenneth Carson passed away peacefully in Newmarket, Ontario on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 88. Kenneth was born in Toronto (formerly East York) on April 17, 1933, grew up on a farm in King Township, and then resided in Newmarket.
Kenneth was a loving husband to the late Eldred (2020) and a dedicated dad to Darrell, Blair, and Duane (Tania). He was the admired “grampa” to Miah, whom he affectionately called “sir”.
Big brother to Evan, Iris Cheyne, Lorne and Bruce and the late Gail Cannon. Ken will be greatly missed by his sisters-in-law, Wanda Eveleigh and Judy Ellis, and brothers-in-law, Verne Eveleigh and LeRoy Ellis. Ken was an Uncle to many nieces and nephews, who will have fond memories to cherish.
Ken enjoyed working on literally anything – cars - motors - woodworking projects etc. and took great pleasure in making any thing operate better. He tinkered and enjoyed figuring out how things worked.
During his career with Honeywell Inc., Ken attained three separate patents for his design work of heating and air conditioning controls.
Ken had been actively involved in Special Olympics in the Newmarket community, as a long-term volunteer, and had a vast knowledge and background of Special Olympics, receiving many awards.
In 2001, Ken was the recipient of the Special Olympics Ontario President’s Award for his direct and meaningful contributions to the development and enhancement of Special Olympics programs while exemplifying the spirit, philosophy, and goals of Special Olympics.
In 2002, Ken Carson received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award from the Governor General for his commitment to Special Olympics.
In 2013, Ken was inducted to the Town of Newmarket Sports Hall of Fame as a builder for his contribution and significance to sport.
Ken will be sadly missed by family, friends, the Special Olympics community and all those whose paths he crossed.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr Peter Anglin and his team at Stronach Regional Cancer Centre for their compassion and care of Ken over the past several years and to the staff of Southlake Regional Health Centre for their compassion and care of Ken over the past couple of months. Ken fought a hard battle and was steadfast and brilliant throughout.
Memorial donations may be made in Kenneth’s name to Special Olympics Ontario – Newmarket and Area.
A service for Ken and Eldred Carson will be arranged for a later date.
