Dear Ally, Doug, Chris and Jenny,
So sorry to hear of your Dad`s passing. You were all wonderful neighbours while we were growing up, ready to lend a helping hand or a roll of toilet paper when there was an emergency.
My favourite story about your dad stemmed from my dad`s constant envy of Lew`s amazing garden. Lew always produced gorgeous, fat, red tomatoes, while my dad only seemed to grow puny, green, awful tomatoes. One year my dad asked Lew to look after the garden while we were away for a couple of weeks. When we returned my dad was shocked and delighted to see fat, red tomatoes gleaming in our back yard. His delight faded, however, when he approached the wonderous plants and realized that Lew had twist-tied his own lovely tomatoes to my dad`s paltry stalks. 
Your dad had great spirit which still lives on.

Dear Alyson and family,

I was saddened to have read of your father's recent passing.  As I was looking at your treasured pictures of Lew, I saw a man who lived a life full of joy.  These images showed a man who cheerfully loved and in return was loved and respected by his family and friends.  I know words will never fill the emptiness that you are experiencing nevertheless please accept my condolences for your loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.  May you find comfort in each other.

I was a volunteer at Sunrise of Aurora, and I can honestly say Lew was one of the kindest people I knew. He was always very sweet, and welcoming, and was the only reason I kept coming back. I'm very sorry for your loss, and I'll miss him greatly as well.

Your Dad was one of the nicest people I knew in my days at the Star. He always had time and a kind word and never once, in my memory, did he lose his cool. He and your mother were a wonderful couple. It's so hard to lose your parents and I know you'll miss them terribly.

I am  surprised that it was not mentioned that Lew was a Star Editor and wrote the Words column for several years.
Lew was a fascinating man who, as far as I knew him, was never in a bad mood. A great guy who will be missed.
