Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Elizabeth Smith White

Peacefully, at age 92, Peggy passed away on October 3, 2015. Beloved wife of the late Denis R.T. White. Loving mother to Andrew (Cathy), (the late) Norman (Kim) and Margot (Graeme). Grandmother to Adam (Diana), Lauren, Gillian, Neil, Gregory, Victoria, Laura (Matt). Daughter to Lena and Percival Smith (owner of Smith Brothers Motor Bodies). Attended North Toronto Collegiate, Havergal College and the University of Toronto. Member of Kappa Kappa Gamma women’s fraternity. Served in the WRENS during the war, later worked at The Banting Institute, Toronto and the CPR assisting British immigrants in northern B.C. She met Denis playing badminton and married in 1954. They raised their family in York Mills, later moved to Markham and after Denis’s death, to Amica in Newmarket. Peggy enjoyed bridge, curling at the Granite Club and golfing at York Downs Golf and Country Club. She shared her husband’s passion for wine and travel and together they traveled the world. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always supportive and loving and an eternal optimist. Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm at St. John’s Anglican Church, York Mills (19 Don Ridge Drive) on Friday, October 9th followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
