Kirsten, I cannot tell you how shocked and saddened I was when I heard about Mark.  My sincerest condolences to you, Hayden, Owen and the rest of the family. Kirsten and family, I am shocked and saddened. I sat next to Mark when we worked at the Star and really got to know this wonderful, caring and considerate human being. I still remember how excited he was when he got into the police force.. not to mention how hard he worked to realize this dream. He was always so proud and happy when he spoke about you and the kids. Gentle, kind, generous, compassionate and funny, Mark was a co-worker and friend from his early days working at the Toronto Star. After he left the Star, a group of us continued to meet once or twice a year to "catch up". Mark proudly talked about Kirsten and his boys Hayden and Owen, the joys of his life. He would speak of being a constable with York Region, a job that he loved. My heart goes out to his entire family. Be consoled that he touched so many people in his young life and that he will be missed dearly.

I had the pleasure of working with Mark at The Star in the Classified Advertising Dept.  He was always cheerful, helpful, a great worker and friend to many. I'm 66 years old and was known as "Ma" to the young staff.If I took a particular shine to some of the summer kids, I referred to them as 'Sonny' or 'Daughter'..Mark was definitely on my 'Sonny' list. I also come from the Doris family 'hood' of Jones and Queen as I grew up on Coady. Mark was a wonderful man and will be very much missed but always remembered.;
