Mary Elizabeth Markle Reid

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Reid (nee Markle) died August 4, 2017 at the age of 86. Betty was predeceased by her best friend, Robert (Bob) Reid in August 2016 after nearly 65 years of marriage. She was a loving mother of 11 children: Frances Hill (Ken), Robert (Susan), Patricia Fetherston, deceased, William (Edel), Mary O’Reilly (Dan), Catherine Callaghan (Tom), Thomas (Ginny), Susan Duggan (Doug Black), Deborah, David and Brian. Betty and Bob were blessed with and enjoyed 31 grandchildren. She was also great-grandmother to 12 children with a 13th & 14th on the way. Betty was pre-deceased by her sister Barbara McCann (and husband Paul) and brother-in-law Vincent Reid (and wife Joan). She leaves behind brother William Markle (and wife Carolyn) and sister Bernadette Dennis (and husband Lowell). Betty was born in Toronto to Ward and Evelyn Markle. She attended St. Joesph’s College and The University of St. Michael’s College. Her community involvement included election to the Board of Trustees with the Toronto Catholic District School Board and service on numerous charities and fund raising committees. She was also a long standing member of York Downs Golf and Country Club. Visitation will be held from 2-6 PM on Sunday, August 13 at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, Ontario. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM on Monday, August 14, at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15347 Yonge Street, Aurora, Ontario. The family would like to thank Dr. William Fetherston for the exceptional care Betty received over the last several years of her life.
