Born in County Meath, Ireland, and raised in Athboy, Maureen carried her Irish roots with pride throughout her life. She trained as a nurse in England before moving to Sudbury, Ontario in the 1960s, where she met her beloved husband, Jack.
Nursing was her calling. She worked at The Wellesley Hospital, Union Villa, and later at Princess Margaret Hospital, where she remained until her retirement in 2015. Her compassion and steady presence touched many lives. In her later years, she devoted herself to caring for Jack during his battle with Alzheimer’s disease, supporting him with strength and love until his passing in 2025.
Maureen and Jack settled in Unionville, where they lived for nearly 50 years, raising their family in a community they came to cherish. They built a life surrounded by wonderful neighbours and lifelong friends, sharing in the everyday joys of family, faith, and friendship.
Maureen raised her children to be independent thinkers, instilling in them a deep respect for education, hard work, and integrity. She encouraged curiosity, resilience, and confidence — lessons that remain part of her legacy.
Maureen will be remembered for her kindness, humour, strength, and generosity. She lived life with energy and style — always on the go, impeccably dressed, and fully accessorized. She had a keen interest in current events and culture, and a deep love of music that stayed with her throughout her life. A vibrant personality with a touch of individuality, Maureen brought joy to those around her and will be missed by all who knew her.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack, she is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kaireen, and son-in-law Brett Cleminson; her son, John, and daughter-in-law Shelley; her grandchildren, Katie and Jack Cleminson; and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South in Aurora on February 12 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 15347 Yonge Street in Aurora on Friday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception back at Thompson Funeral Home in Aurora.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Margaret Bahen Hospice in Maureen’s memory.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Southlake Regional Health Centre and Margaret Bahen Hospice for their compassion and care.
Maureen will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
