August 16, 1940 – May 9, 2016
It is with deep sadness that his family announces the passing on Monday, May 9, 2016 of Michael John Doyle, in his 76th year, with family by his side at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario. He fought a determined battle with cancers for the past year.
Loving husband for 32 years of Susan (Lanthier), dear father of Cindy (Dominic) and Timothy (Kim), and special Gran’da of Anthony, Bianca and Aden. Son of the late Michael Doyle and the late Mary Mullin and brother of the late James, he is survived by his sister, Mary (Bill) and sister-in-law, Glory. He will be dearly missed by many brothers/sisters –in-law and their families, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and long -time friends.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, he began his 37 year career in education as a teacher with the Montreal Catholic School Commission before becoming Executive Director of the Federation of English-Speaking Catholic Teachers followed by a position as Executive Assistant with the West Island Teachers’ Association. In 1989, he accepted a labor relations position with the York Catholic District School Board in Ontario.
Upon his retirement in the mid-nineties, he pursued his love of travel especially to Ireland, numerous trips to Cuba with wonderful friends, times in Virginia/New Jersey/New York with special people and recently part of the winters in Florida. A lover of sports, Mike had a special interest in football which he had played for 15 years and all types of auto racing. He was a voracious and eclectic reader and no day passed without successfully completing crossword and Sudoku puzzles. In everyday life and in the workplace, Mike had a special ability to recognize and debate both sides of an issue. He was a unique man in so many ways and special to his family and friends who will cherish wonderful memories.
For their care and compassion, special thanks to Dr.Kenneth McAlister, his physician of more than 20 years, and to Dr. Charles Cho, Dr. Cynthia Luk, Dr. Katie Mulhern and their amazing teams at the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre.
According to Mike’s wishes there was no wake or funeral and cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in Mike’s name to the Cancer Centre at Southlake Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
Chuid eile I siochain, Mike
