It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mischillene Lynette August-Poyer on April 13, 2023. She leaves her courageous spirit behind to live on in her son Darren; the light of her life, and very loving husband Kevin, who has been by her side for every crazy adventure and who’s been there holding her hand though every step of her life’s journey. Her sisters, Lisle (Dave Hodgson), Anthea (Wayne Blake) and Inez (Steve Oliveira), who always made it their mission to give her the will and hope to see past every setback and believe in her own strength as only sisters can. Her parents Edward and Veronica August who spent much of their lives spending countless hours at hospitals, tending to her every need, always ensuring that they gave her the utmost care all while supporting her dreams and independence. Mischillene lived life to the fullest, she enjoyed travelling to new places, road trips with Kevin, trying new foods and chatting with friends. If she wasn’t crocheting something new, she was arranging family picnics or get togethers. Her passion for life and achieving her goals even when others said she couldn’t, was remarkable. Mischillene will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, she was forever generous, gentle, and kind, she always saw and praised the best in you. Her memory will live on in our hearts.
A visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Pkwy. South, Aurora, ON L4G 6W8 on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 am. A burial will follow at Aurora Cemetery with an invitation to join the family for a reception tea to be held after the burial at the Funeral Home.
Mischillene’s journey through the Healthcare system over the many years as a deaf person was challenging for her and the family. In the last month of her life, the wonderful ICU nurses at Toronto General Hospital did their best to communicate with her, but the lack of ASL translators, ASL nurses and of awareness of devices that could help them communicate with her was evident. The Canadian Association for the Deaf bring awareness, education and supports to organizations, businesses and our healthcare system of the challenges that deaf/hard of hearing patients face.
Donating to CAD, is a wonderful way to honour her memory.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ThompsonFH-Aurora.com for the August family.
