1940 - 2022
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the family announces Rick's passing at Southlake Hospital on January 14, 2022. He passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Rick was the first baby born in Toronto on January 1, 1940 to William and Mary Armstrong (pre-deceased). He grew up in Toronto with his siblings Isabel, Margaret, Roberta, Hugh (all pre-deceased) and is survived by his dear brother William. Rick will be sorely missed by his loving and devoted wife Marlene. Loved Dad to Richard (Peter) and Denise (Mike); cherished Grandpa to Christianne (Alex); loved Uncle Ricky to many nieces and nephews; missed by extended family Gail, Marianne and Larry. Lovingly remembered by his dear godson David McMillan and family. He will be missed by many friends whose friendship he enjoyed and treasured. Rick was an intensely passionate leader of his profession in building services engineering for almost 40 years. As a Partner at Rybka, Smith and Ginsler he led, with engineering excellence, some of the largest and most complex projects the firm undertook. He balanced this with great compassion and professional development for the staff he led, hired and mentored. The impact he had on so many lives within the firm is to this date still remembered. Rick lived life with zest and had a great sense of humour. He enjoyed his retirement years with Marlene in Aurora. Pre-covid they enjoyed cruises and vacations in Florida. Most of all Rick loved being surrounded by family and friends always ready for a summer BBQ. A private family service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. A Livestream of the service may be viewed at https://funeraweb.tv/diffusions/44691. At a later date when it is safe to do so a celebration of Rick's life will be held in Toronto. If desired, donations may be made in memory of Rick to Southlake Regional Health Centre's Medicine Program or a charity of your choice. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.thompsonfh-aurora.com

that's when we miss you most of all."
