1914 – 2012
Samuel David Foote born October 7, 1914 died November 13, 2012 at Newmarket, Ontario. He was predeceased in June, 2000, by his wife of sixty one years, Janet Mary Weir. Sam is survived by his three children, Mary Ellen (Doug Stewart), Donald Foote (Judy Zarchikoff), and Keith Foote (Maureen Dowling). Sam’s grandchildren are Margaret, (Rick), Steele and Janet Stewart, Robert Stewart and David Stewart, and four great grandchildren. He is Pre-deceased by parents Septimus and Cora Foote, and siblings Grace Powell (Percy), Walter Foote (Hazel) and Joseph Foote (Edith). Survived by sister Mildred Wideman (Lorne). Sam is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Sam was born at his parent’s farm in Whitchurch Township. Between grade school and high school Sam took a sabbatical of one year to work with his father on the farm. He always remembered that as being a very special time. Sam graduated from the University of Toronto in 1937 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and began his career employed on the construction of railway structures and railways in Ontario and Quebec for CNR. He then moved into the Petrochemical industry working for BA Oil in Calgary and then various Engineering Consultant Companies based in Toronto. Sam was a member of the Engineering Institute of Canada, The Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Lifetime Members Engineers Association. Sam retired from engineering in 1979 and spent his retirement years working on his own farm in Aurora where he and his wife Mary lived and had raised their family. Sam was a member of the Trinity Anglican Church, Aurora. Robert and Anita Johnson along with their children Lydia and Mirko were constant companions. Anita’s attendant care of Mary and then of Sam added immeasurably to their lives. Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, Ontario (905 727-5421) on Sunday November 18 from 2-4pm. Funeral Service at Trinity Anglican Church, 79 Victoria Street, Aurora on Monday November 19 at 11am. Cremation.
