My condolences to my Aunty Sylvia’s children, grandchildren, sister, cousins, nieces and nephews. My mother Cynthia grew up with Aunty Sylvia and considered her as a sister, the age gap between them being only two years apart. My mother loved seeing her in Toronto over the years and enjoyed taking her to eat Chinese food so that they could gaff about their childhood and all of Aunty Sylvia’s beautiful descendants. I last saw Aunty Sylvia in 2019, following the passing of my mom. She gave me a wooden sculpture of a mother holding a baby in her arms. I’m not sure which woman the sculpture could represent as they both were loving mothers. I hope my mom is making her laugh right now, as they gaff about the old days and look down at their children with smiles on their faces.

Uncle Nev, Francine, Dwayne, Sherwin and all of the grandchildren and great grands that I know she helped raise and loved dearly. deepest condolences to all of you from Raymond, myself and family.  I remember Aunty Syl as my glamorous young Aunty. No disrespect to the other sisters, who held their own in their circumstances, but Aunty Syl was the sister who went out into the working world... outfit and make-up impeccable. At that time in Guyana and even in Canada this was very inspirational to me.  I remember the days when I would stay with you in Toronto and she would be ensuring dinner prep was done, getting ready to get the TTC to work, watching soap operas and catching up on family stories all at the same time!!!! 
She was always warm, welcoming and supportive, giving me a home away from home during my years at university and coming out to Guelph for my graduation.  I'm sending all my love at this time and wishing you comfort in all the warm memories that you have shared together.

My grandmother, Doris Churaman (nee Marks) wanted to pass along a message about her little sister, Sylvia. Grandma told me that Aunty Sylvie was the youngest of eight, born in 1939. When her mother, Josephine, passed away in 1950, Sylvia was only 11 years old. Despite her age, she stepped into a role far beyond what anyone would expect of a child.

Grandma said she took Aunty Cynthie under her wing, becoming not just a sister, but a steady, caring presence. In many ways, she became a second mother. She helped keep the household going, took on chores without hesitation, and showed a quiet strength that carried her family through a difficult time. My grandma admired that about her little sister and told me this with so much love and pride.

Sylvia had a natural grace about her. She took pride in her appearance, always well-groomed and put together. She loved to dress up and go for walks, even as a young girl, carrying herself well. 

She will be remembered not only for what she did, but for who she was. Loving, strong, and devoted to her family. Mature beyond her years from such a small age, she will be missed. On behalf of my grandmother, and family, we are sending our love. Grandma will miss her sister so much but we know she is happy with her son and God.

My auntie Sylvia was an amazing lady to grow up with. I enjoyed spending time with her over the years as she and my mom were best friends growing up. They were only born 1 day apart. I am an only child so spending time with her, uncle Neville  their kids, Nigel, Francine, Dwayne and Sherwin were huge highlights of my childhood and early adulthood. Auntie is now spending time with my mom up in heaven!  I really admired uncle Neville for his deep love and caring he had for her and all in his family! My deepest condolences to all of them. Auntie will be deeply missed by all the people she touched. 
May she rest in peace.. Love you Auntie.....

Growing up I think I spent as much time with Aunty Syl and family as in my own home. She was my favourite aunt ever. Those are some of my most cherished childhood memories. I’m just grateful that I was able to tell her she was my favourite when I last spoke with her. Love you Aunty Syl. Give Lulu a hug for me
