Teresa was born January 26th 1933 to Salvatore and Rosina Guadagnolo and raised on a beautiful countryside farm house in Paterno, Calabria, Italy. She departed the only home she’d known and crossed the Atlantic via the Queen Frederica Ship and docked in Halifax August 1956. From there she travelled by train to Toronto Canada where she joined her husband Carmine. Together they built a memorable life of 53 years together. They welcomed their daughter and only child Mary into the world in July 1957. Teresa quickly learned English when she came to Canada and became a strong advocate for all her family members who one by one followed her and immigrated to Canada. She was the one everyone could count on to ensure that their transition into a foreign land was a smooth one. In addition to being a full time mom and homemaker, Teresa always made herself available to everyone and anyone who needed her help or guidance. She was a very warm-hearted and caring woman who always put others before herself.
She was passionate about many things; the immaculate upkeep of her home and garden, the upbringing and shaping of her daughter to become a strong, independent and successful woman, listening to music, singing, dancing, cooking, crocheting, sewing and most importantly spending time with family and friends. She was a deeply religious person and not a day would go by without her reciting the rosary a minimum of 3 times a day with her rosary beads in hand. That faith in God got her through many trials and tribulations through the years.
Late in life she got the opportunity to experience the joy of travelling with her husband and daughter. Over the years she travelled and vacationed in Italy 4 times, Barbados, Arizona, Las Vegas, and Nova Scotia in addition to the many road trips to Ottawa, Quebec and Niagara on the Lake.
Teresa lived a very healthy life free of serious illness but in January 2022 at 89 years of age, her health started to decline making her unable to continue to enjoy the quality of life she so much cherished and deserved.
After a fiercely fought battle, Teresa peacefully passed away at the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket on June 25 2022 in the arms of her loving daughter Mary who rarely left her side the last 6 months of her life. She was granted her wish by God to pass away peacefully and free of pain in her sleep. Predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband and siblings Maria, Antonio and Francesco. She is survived and will be missed by siblings Vincenza, Michele and Ida, as well as her many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Many thanks to the entire team of staff and volunteers at the Margaret Bahen Hospice where Teresa was blessed to have spent the last 3 weeks of her life in comfort and free of pain in a heavenly, homely setting. Words alone cannot express the gratitude felt for their compassion, care, emotional support and guidance provided to Teresa and daughter Mary.
