Born in Paisley, Scotland on July 22, 1948, Thomas Henry McArdle passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 20, 2021 with his wife of 48 beautiful years, Isabel McArdle, by his side at their home in Ballantrae.

Tom was a much-loved father to Gillian, Alun and Ken (Summer Elliott), and a treasured papa to Natalie. He will be a papa and guardian angel to Kieran Thomas McArdle, who will soon be born and will know all about what a very special person his grandfather was.

Tom is survived by his sister Kathleen Williams, brother-in-law Johnny and nieces Laura and Claire in Scotland. Tom was also a loving uncle to Valerie, Ruth and Stuart, and to many others in Scotland who affectionately called him uncle and considered him immediate family, and by numerous special and life-long friends from across the UK and Canada.

A skilled millwright with a natural ability to fix anything, Tom and Isabel moved from Bishopton, Scotland to Aurora, Ontario in 1981 with Gillian and Alun as young children. They soon welcomed Ken a few years later and built a happy life for their family. Always a proud Scottish-Canadian, Tom quickly developed a love for hockey and the Toronto Maple Leafs alongside his enduring passion for, and depth of knowledge about, Glasgow Celtic.

He will be dearly missed and forever remembered for his kindness, selflessness, the playful spirit that his granddaughter adored, his sense of humour, willingness to help anyone, and boundless love for his family and friends.

A visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Thompson Funeral Home at 530 Industrial Parkway South in Aurora. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s memory to the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the McArdle family.

We were so sorry to hear about Tom’s passing. We were neighbours in Ballantrae until we moved last year. Tom was so friendly and interesting and so willing to lend a hand. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Over the last 30 years, Tommy was always a welcome addition at the Stewart Clan gatherings, either on New Year’s Day, like the picture below. Or at showers, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays or one of the many Canada Day parties that he attended along with other proud Scottish-Canadians

We will miss you Tommy

Dear Isabel, Gillian, Alun and Ken

We are so deeply sorry for your loss over here in Scotland. Tom was one of the friendliest people I knew and what great company he was. I'm grateful to have got to know him on your visits and I know my dad will sorely miss his regular updates from his great friend.

Gone far too soon but what a fantastic person

Words can't describe how important you and your family have been to myself and my family over the years. From all the hockey games, get togethers and our wonderful talks at the cottage with a beer in hand I always loved that despite how much time had past, whenever we crossed paths it felt as though we had just seen each other the other day. You were always so easy to talk to and I loved listening to the wisdom you had to share. When I had no where to live your family took me in no questions asked while I looked for an apartment. That meant the world to me and was a testament to how selfless and wonderful you were. Your knowledge, kindness and positive outlook on life was always something I admired greatly and will continue to admire for as long as I live. Thank you for making such a meaningful impact on my life and being the man you were. I will cherish the memories forever.

I first met Tommy in 1987, when we both started at the Newmarket Mars plant.
He soon demonstrated his excellent work ethic, as we commissioned the process equipment. Tommy’s process was the caramel system, which he helped bring up to speed with Rick Butler and Carol Petite.
Even during those long hours he demonstrated his pixieish sense of humour .
Tommy was always willing to pitch in and help, wherever and whenever needed.
He will always be remembered for his beaming smile, cheery demeanour, and his delivery of a hood story!
Our condolences to his family.

In 1988 we met the Mcardles in a hockey rink and we commenced a friendship that lasted forever with no expectations or demands.
We enjoyed dinners, parties, cottage trips not to mention many games of golf..
Tom and Isabel are part of the family and we are shocked and saddened by Tom’s passing. We were together in September at the cottage, eating , drinking, hiking and golfing..
To keep it short, Tom, we love you and will miss you , your generosity, kindness, humour, and unparalleled explanation of historical events ! were inspirational and educational !
Your grandson Kieran Thomas McArdle was brought into this world today and he will know you are watching over him.
Be strong Isabel, Gillian, Alun, and Ken , and know we are here for you .

Dear Isabel and Family,
We are so very sorry to hear of Tom’s sudden passing. We remember back to Aurora on Poplar Cres. All of us were new neighbors when you moved from Scotland. So many years have passed but we loved our gathering at Kathy and Ian’s not too long ago when some of us got to catch up. Tom walked in with his wonderful smile and the hugs began! It was like no time had passed at all. We treasure those memories and send our sympathy to all of you.
