

Absalon Cuartas Sr., 57, of Austin, Texas, was a dedicated father, loving husband, caring brother, and life-changing sponsor. After a long battle with addiction and countless days full of miracles, he passed away on Saturday, January 29th, 2022.
Absalon was born on December 23rd,1964, to Amanda Arbelaez and Cesar Cuartas in Medellín, Colombia. Absalon moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey as a young child and moved to Seguin, Texas in 1986 with his Uncle Felix to help with his construction company. Absalon was an accomplished sheet metal worker in the Local 67 Chapter based in San Antonio, Texas, ending his career as an experienced general foreman. Absalon loved classic rock, his native country of Colombia, and was an excellent swimmer. His love for swimming is where he found solace and had long loving conversations with his higher power.
After struggling with life's circumstances he surrendered to a higher power and found his path in the program of NA. Through fellowship, service, and step work, Absalon was blessed with a “life beyond his wildest dreams.” Absalon was able to travel to most states, many countries, and multiple continents spreading and receiving the message of hope and enjoying freedom from active addiction.
In 2006, he met Cynthia Almaznaai in San Antonio, Texas. Absalon and Cynthia married in November of 2011, and went on to have three beautiful children, Princeton, Absalon Jr., and Sofia. Being a father was all he truly ever wanted out of life and he found his life’s purpose in loving, parenting, and traveling with his children. The love he had for his family was palpable and inspired everyone. Absalon brought so much joy to his family with road trips across the United States and proudly took them to Colombia to meet his relatives.
Absalon was preceded in death by his parents, Amanda Arbelaez and Cesar Cuartas. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Cuartas, children Princeton, Absalon Jr., and Sofia Cuartas; his siblings, Sandra Lipchak, Natalia Cuartas, Steven Cuartas, Paul Cuartas, Claribel Cuartas, Nora Cuartas, and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
