So sorry for your loss.  Dan will be remembered for his kindness and wonderful spirit. Richard and I enjoyed some nice times and events he planned. He was always ready to travel for an event if asked. May he rest in Peace.

Dan and Ricky D. Reyes were in several parades; San Antonio, Austin, Pleasanton, Poteet, etc. winning awards.  Mainly for making the public aware that over 1400 Tejanos and natives fought and died for freedom, at the Battle of Medina of 1813.

I am sorry to hear the sad news of my childhood friend.
May you rest in peace. Even though we went our separate ways after reaching adulthood we continued to stay in touch over the years.
you will be missed; you will forever be in our heart and mind.

I set up a group to help identify the Battle of Medina at Pleasanton Parade. Dan and others were part of it.  Always having fun

Several years ago I went on a tour with Dan to go visit the Battle of Medina site. I was very impressed with Dans knowledge of Texas history and enjoyed listening to him as we drove. I will surely miss him and regret not listening to him more often.

I accompanied Dan on several different occasions, usually as a videographer to help re-enact the Battle of Medina , or to record some historical information.   After one such event , the San Antonio Public Access TV offices -- from where my videos were broadcast -- received a Freedom of Information Act (F.O.I.A.) request for the Battle of Medina video that we produced ! . . the coordinator was happy to fulfill their request 🙂

Mr Dan Arrellano was a true American Tejano historian. His wealth of knowledge of early  Native  Americans, Spain, Republic of Mexico, and Republic of Texas history were indeed fascinating. 

Mr Arrellano pushed hard about Texas bloodiest battle that very few people even in Texas knew about in the 1800s and 1900s. The 1813 Battle of Medina had combined rebels (Tejanos, Americans & Indians) of over 1.200 against a superior Spanish Royal Army. 
(It was formally Texas’ first Declaration of Independence (against Spain) and the second Texas independence was in 1836 against the Republic of Mexico of which Tejanos also fought for independence with numerous battle in South Texas, Bexar, La Bahia/Goliad, The Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto and supplied the Texas Revolution. )

This century, The 1813 Battle of Medina is now considered part of Texas history in schools due to Dan Arrellano efforts at Texas State Board of Education/SBOE. His hard work and endless efforts of raising the awareness of The Battle of Medina are greatly appreciated among Texas historians and teachers. Dan also wrote books about The Battle of Medina. 

Dan Arrellano volunteered profusely  in educating the public about the 1813 Battle of Medina in elite museums such as Bob Bullock Museum in Austin, Tejano Museum in Corpus Christi. Witte Museum in San Antonio and in numerous historical events in Texas which certainly raised the awareness of our deep Tejano history.

My most sincere condolences to Dan Arellano's family.  I first met Dan during a time that we were both researching the historical facts covering the Battle of Medina.  Although we had different positions on where the battle took place and where the bodies were buried, I found Dan to be very well informed, a very dynamic and persuasive and bright person.  Dan, it was a pleasure knowing you and may you now Rest In Peace.

To Brother Dan’s family:
(Dan and I are/were brother Masons and Shriners , that’s why I call him brother)
I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing just today.
I knew him since childhood on Live Oak Street in good old South Austin.  We hung around together in our youthful years. We drifted apart as time is wont to do, for many years.
I didn’t run into Dan until  a Shriner’s convention
In Dallas back ‘89.  If I remember correctly, he had moved to San Antonio and had become a mason and Shriner there.  He told me that he was in their Oriental Band while I was with the Chanters unit so we weren’t competing against each other. 
I remember we had a good time there.
Anyways,  Bro Dan was a good man in every way.
(Masonic Lodges don’t just let anyone in!!)
I know that you, his family, friends , and loved ones, have many  warm memories of him that will serve you well.!
To Dan’s Family, friends and Loved ones:
May the Lord our GOD Bless you and keep you Always.  Be ever mindful that the time will come  when each one of us will be called to face the 
Mighty throne of our Lord Jesus, to answer up for what we did with the precious life he gave us.
