Addie’s lifelong walk with God began in her youth when she confessed Christ at New Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church. Seeking to deepen her spiritual roots, she later joined Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church.
Alongside her beloved late husband, Elijah Sneed, Jr. Addie found her dedicated spiritual home at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Ive J. Rich. A faithful servant. She poured her heart into her church community serving with distinction as the Nurse’s Aide Coordinator and as an active member of the Mission Committee her health declined.
Addie was a dedicated worker, spending 18 years as a Housekeeping Supervisor at the Scottish Rite Dormitory, where her leadership was highly valued until her retirement due to illness.
Beyond her professional and spiritual life Addie’s true masterpiece was her family. She was the matriarch of gatherings, famously leading the birthday dinners for her beloved late mother. She took immense joy in coordinating the plans and meals for Juneteenth, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. An exceptional cook, Addie took great care to pass down her treasured recipes to her sons and grandchildren, ensuring her culinary legacy lives on.
Addie’s ultimate joy had found her two grandchildren, whom she adored completely calling them center of her heart and her absolute “Babies”. She made sure they never wanted for anything. Maw Maw and grandchildren weekends were filled with watching Disney, The Young and the Restless, HGTV and the Food Network Shondria, or riding around with her grandson, playfully telling him to turn up that Tupac! Addie also shared a rare, lifelong bond with her dear friend whom she simply and affectionately called my sister, Brenda Bullard-Wooley.
Addie was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 47 years, Elijah Sneed, Jr.; her parents, Acy Sr. and Ada Hardeman; brothers, Acy Jr., Hollis, Joseph, Johnny, Donald Ray and Clarence; daughter, Lanelle Kay; and sister, Betty Jo.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her sons, Reginald (Monica), Elijah III (Shontre’); her grandchildren, Elijah (Martika), Shondria; her brothers, James, Charles and Harry Hardeman; her sisters, Clara Houston (Charles), Matty Sneed; and her brother-in-law, Lonnie Sneed; a special friend, Debra Slider; her bonus son, Jerqarius “Charlie B” Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
