December 1, 1919 – December 9, 2023
Agnes Elaine Grosso was born to Andrew Benjamin and Lucy Lyons Harrison in Jacksboro, Texas, Jack County on December 1, 1919. After high school graduation, she pursued a career in the secretarial field working in real estate, law offices, and the radiology department in a hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas. She joined the United States Army in January 1943. Being an army officer stationed at the Port of Embarkation, Manhattan, New York, her duties as a leader of a team of 30 individuals were managing how supplies and materials were acquired, stored, and shipped to the American soldiers fighting in Europe. She was extremely proud to be a World War II veteran. During her time as an army officer, Agnes met and married the love of her life, Dr. James Peter Grosso, who was serving as an army doctor caring for the dental needs of the American soldiers. They were married on February 2, 1945, and lived happily ever after.
Agnes was a world traveler, visiting Japan, Canada, Mexico, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Italy, acquiring knowledge of different cultures and world religions, as well as much of the United States of America. She and her husband enjoyed these travels and made the most of every day. Agnes was an avid believer in exercise and proper nutrition. She enjoyed playing golf, swimming, bicycle riding, and walking for miles and had played on the girls’ softball team and volleyball team during her time in high school. She was an expert seamstress, learning the fine points of sewing from lessons taken from the Empress of Japan’s seamstress while visiting Japan. Her cooking skills were monumental, as well. Agnes enjoyed socializing and the company of others, especially her bridge club participation.
Agnes is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Ozella Solomon, Verna Sitton, Jenny Bowen, and Lola Harrison; her brothers, Alfred, Kenneth, Nathan and Hollice Harrison. Agnes is survived by her son, James Harrison Grosso, daughter Elayne Harrison Grosso, daughter-in-law, Kathy Eastworld Grosso, and granddaughters, Jean Marie Grosso and Lara Ellen Grosso, along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
