

Alan Grey Merritt, age 70, was born in Seattle, April 9, 1943. Alan passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He leaves behind his wife of seventeen years, Mary Gay Caven Merritt. In addition, his sons Matthew, Clint and Jason; as well as daughter, Kristin Bienvenu, step-daughter, Leslie Landis, and twin sister Martha Mutz, brother-in-law, H.Scott Caven, sister-in-law Betty Bienvenu Richey, along with their families. He is pre-deceased by his step-son, Joey Bienvenu. Alan was fortunate, indeed, to claim 11 grandchildren.
A graduate in economics in 1965 from The University of California at Berkley, Alan was on the management track of Pacific Telephone when in 1968 he joined IBM to ultimately become Territory Manager. He briefly served National Gypsum, and then went on to represent Unitech Services in 1987 becoming Regional Sales Manager, Top Producer and Vice President of Sales in 1994. He co-created System Control Services as President and CEO from 1994-2010.
Alan was a mentor to underprivileged children in a school in Dallas, and joined the Greater Dallas Crime Commission as an active member serving that same demographic. He sang in his church choir and was a leading actor in numerous sketches in church dramas. He loved to travel and visited Europe countless times, as well seeing most of the United States.
Alan Merritt loved his Lord, his family and his friends. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Pastor Carl Clark to officiate. Interment will follow services at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
