Alex was born in Niagara Falls, NY on January 21, 1931 to Alexander and Mary Drummond Hewitt Chamberlain. He graduated from Lee Salle High in 1948 and Michigan State in 1953. He immediately enlisted in the USAF.
In 1961 he graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Meteorology. From 1961 to 1964 he was a Hurricane Hunter in Bermuda. After 1964 his career took him to Texas, Vietnam, Michigan, Hawaii and finally to Austin’s Bergstrom AFB where he retired in 1973.
He began a 2nd career with the US Dept. of Agriculture in Austin and Tyler, TX. and retired again in 1994.
Alex married Georgianna Kocurek in 1971 and they enjoyed many trips to Czechoslovakia and Eastern Europe. He was a founding member of SVDP Catholic Church and was active in various church ministries; he really loved his Catholic faith and church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Irene Cassert (Leonard). He is survived by his cherished wife, Georgia; together they raised his daughter, Laurie Taylor of OK and son, Kent Chamberlain (Martha) of San Antonio. He is also survived by his daughters, Denise McDonald (David) of CA, and Susan Marler of CA; his granddaughter, Shelby Leadingham (Ryan) of CA, and grandsons, Ian and Alec Chamberlain of San Antonio; his brother Douglas Chamberlain (Linda) of NY, and sister Isabelle Williams of NC, and his beloved dog Daisy.
A visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, Austin, TX. Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Austin, TX, and the grave side service will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Granger, TX.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clerical Endowment Fund or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
