Alford Earl Moffett, Jr. of Austin, Texas, transitioned from his earthly life on September 18, 2023. He was 93 years old. Born on January 14, 1930, Alford was the fourth of seven children born to Alford Earl Moffett, Sr. and Zora Blackwell-Moffett.
Alford attended Austin Public Schools and later joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Prior to leaving for the military, he met and married Bobbie Jean Stiles, and to their union three children were born - Annette, Elbra and Robert. After his discharge from the military, Alford and his family moved to San Francisco, California, in 1954 and later returned to Texas in 1959.
Upon returning to Texas, Alford started his career with Brice Wholesale Floral (now Bill Doran Company) where he was employed for over 40 years. During his tenure with the company, he developed a friendship with the company’s owner, Billy Brice, who encouraged him to establish roots by purchasing a home for his family. In 1966, with Billy’s support and help, Alford proudly purchased the home he resided in until his passing.
After 32 years of marriage, his wife Bobbie passed away. On July 26, 1986, Alford married Floy Mae Bunton, and they were happily married for 37 years.
Affectionately known as “Sonny” by his family and friends, he had many favorite pastimes, including fishing with his cousins in East Texas, and spending time with family. He was especially proud of his briskets, which he prepared with perfection! In his later years, he developed a passion for watching golf, and was a fan of the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys football teams.
Alford was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin Williams, Sr. and Hollis Moffett; two sisters, Annis Celine Stiles and Bertha Johnson-Carter; two stepsons, Alex Bunton and Robert Bunton and three great-grandchildren.
