Alfred V. Moreno passed away quietly and peacefully surrounded by his children. He was 91 years old and born in Austin, Texas. He attended Austin High School and married his high school sweetheart. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Roselie Bowles Moreno, his parents Alfred and Inez Moreno and son-in-law Joe O. Martinez all of Austin, Texas.
He served 9 years in the Navy Reserve and lived his life as a patriot to his country. He retired after 30 years of service from the Austin American Statesman. His greatest pleasure was his ranch in Bastrop County tending to his animals and hosting family outings.
Alfred was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church since 1998. He enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed traveling throughout Europe.
He enjoyed the company of his 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and especially enjoyed watching them grow up.
He is survived by his daughters, Helena Miller, Joanne Rosas (Abel), Carolyn Martinez and son Eric Moreno. His grandchildren, Brian Miller, Jason Martinez, Matthew Martinez, Heather Rosas Hardaway, Jared Martinez, Brandon Martinez, Caroline Martinez Miramon, Marissa Rosas Meditz, Evan Moreno, Alec Moreno, Adam Rosas and Ryan Moreno. Great grandchildren, Jason Martinez Jr., Avery Martinez, Brandon Martinez, Jr., Landon Miramon, Claire Martinez and Scarlet Martinez.
A visitation with recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. Interstate 35 Frontage Rd, Austin, Texas. Alfred’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Douglas Salmon and the special nurses in the ICU at Seton Hospital Kyle and Seton Hospice.
Alfred’s greatest gift was his great love for his family. He always had a warm welcoming friendly smile for all. And always had a story to tell.
