Vincent was my blood uncle making Alice my aunt through marriage. I remember when I was 5 years old her teaching me to dance the Cha Cha. It was very important to her that I learned how to dance for some reason and she taught me a few which I can dance to this day. Thank you Aunt Alice. Love you very much.

My friendship with Alice started in 2014, when we were apartment neighbors in Austin. Both being immigrants from different eras we developed a friendship that lasted until Alice’s last moments on Earth. I loved hearing Alice’s life story about her family in Scotland and in US, meeting Smokey and Tiny, her beloved cats, that belonged to her late son. 

We visited one another, had dinners together, shared life stories, went thrift shopping, ate ice cream, laughed, and found little pleasures that Alice was forever grateful for.  Alice would always talk about Vinny and her boys, her love for them and her desire to be near them. Alice felt sad to leave her apartment and missed her patio where she fed birds and deer. We installed  bird feeder for her in her new home at Brookdale where she could still enjoy feeding birds and squirrels. Tiny and Smokey followed Alice to her new home and she was so happy to have them with her, as they were both extension of her son. Tiny kept Alice company at Brookdale, while Smokey went to live in a new home. Alice would visit Smokey, and was forever grateful to her friend Rene, who helped find new home for her cat. 

I was grateful and lucky to have a friend like Alice, we cared deeply for one another and I was saddened to find out that Alice is no longer with us, but she spent this Valentine’s Day with her beloved Vinny and the boys. Thank you for sharing your smile with all of us, Alice! I will forever miss you! 

Alice was my dear friend and pet client.  We established a great friendship over the years after I became her pet sitter when she lived at her apartment off Spicewood & Mesa area in Austin.  She so loved her cats Smokey & Tiny and took great care of them.  She was very in-tune with Mother Nature.  She loved to have bird feeders on her porch and also loved her visits by the local neighborhood deer and squirrels to feast on the seeds dropped by the birds.  She liked for me to take her cats out for short walks on a leash to give them the pleasures of outdoor stimulation.  She would come out to watch them and she loved the sun on her face.  When she was in her better health she enjoyed walking down to the local Randall’s in walking distance with her cart to pick up a some groceries and I was impressed with her tenacity and thrive to be independent.  When she moved into Brookdale Living Center she   purchased a bird feeder that could be put into her new home window sill that was up a few stories high.  She always wanted the birds near her and it was so cool that she even had friendly squirrels that would scale up the wall to come partake of the bird seeds and we got tickled with amazement of them getting up the wall.

She had a lot of wisdom and we had some really nice chats.  We enjoyed going to the movies and going out on occasion for a good hamburger.  She once joined me to the golf course to enjoy the outdoor scenery and watch me golf.  She shared stories about riding in golf cart with her husband and retrieving lost balls.

Lots of good laughs we had together and for that I am very grateful!  I will remember her laughter especially the day I called to sing her Happy bday over the phone and how proud she was of turning 90.  It was a honor and privilege knowing her and having her as my friend.  I will miss her dearly here on earth but her spirit along with others that have already transitioned over will shine down amongst us all till we reunite together in Heaven.

Enjoyed our bridge games in Alexandria, Va. We had some great visits in Austin and will miss talking to you but glad you are now with your loved ones..

So sad to lose Aunt Alice, the last of the Glasgow Schwarz's.  The Vancouver cousins will always remember meeting Aunt Alice, Uncle Vinnie, Alex and young Vincent,  when they came up to Canada on a road trip in the 70's. Wild times with the 7  North American Schwarz cousins that summer in Vancouver. A couple of years later, the  'Vancouvers'  headed south for a Spring Break holiday in Tuscon, with Aunt Alice and the family.  Aunt Alice also joined us in Canada for Rosalind's and Mark's wedding. We will always remember dear Aunt Alice for her lively laughter, her warm heart and her sense of fun. We will all miss her, as we will, all her siblings, our parents, aunts and uncles ..... the Glasgow Schwarz's, 
now Resting In Peace, the 8, along with their parents.

Alice was a wonderful lady, with a great personality and a glint of cheekiness, well perhaps more than a glint! Some years ago, Alice was keen to get help finding old movies to watch, so I tried to teach her how to use voice search on her tablet but unfortunately the technology couldn't quite cope with her Scottish American accent, but Alice saw the funny side of it all nonetheless. 

Alice always enjoyed a good family get together and loved speaking to people until the small hours. She will be remembered with great fondness by many. 



Alice was a beloved member of the Parklawn Bridge Group in Virginia.  Her sunny disposition was always welcome,  her smile was contagious.  She was such a fun and happy person, despite everything, her courage was admirable.    She will be missed. 

I met Alice thru my mom Kay Dameron, as they played bridge together.  Alice played bridge together with a bunch of neighborhood ladies.  Then my son started working with her son Alec, and I got to know and love Alice then.  Alice, Alec, and my son would take weekly trips to the mall to go shopping and then catch a movie. Alice loved shopping, but would only get something if it was a bargain.  And she loved going to the movies.   Her loves were Church, Family, friends, bridge, traveling, shopping, and movies.  She had a sharp wit about her, and was always quick with a joke. My son took her shopping one Black Friday, and she really enjoyed it.  They had so much fun.  Once we also moved to TX, she would take the bus to come visit us.  We also visited her a few times in Austin.  She was such fun to be around.  We will miss her dearly.  The photo was when we visited her, and took her on a boat trip to see the bats.  She always loved new adventures . 

Dear Aunt Alice was a lady with a warm and generous heart laced with a wicked sense of humour. I think back with fondness to our various trips together (as mentioned by Michele) - Alice was a constant source of amusement and surprise throughout!  Although there was much sadness in her life, her strong faith carried her through and ensured she always had a smile  and a kind thought for everyone else. 

Aunt Alice, what a character.  It wasn't until her trip back to the UK to visit her surviving siblings that I got to her know her - we had a fun-filled trip to Ireland with cousins Maureen and Liz, never a dull moment as I'm sure they will agree.  She came to stay with me in Wingham for a few days before going on a road trip with Liz. Liz and I went up to Glasgow for her last weekend to ensure that she  made it to Edinburgh airport in time for her flight home.  It happened to coincide with the 4 nations rugby tournament and Aunt Alice's last evening in Scotland was spent with some very merry, kilted rugby supporters!  I am lucky to have such fond memories of her and sad that I was never able to visit her in the States, which we had talked about on her trip over here.

Alice and I were friends for over 60  years and she was one of my roommates living in N Y.  Our husbands  were best friends  and we had many good times together through those years.  Thanks for great memories Alice.  You were a great friend . Until we meet again.  ❤️

I only met Aunt Alice once, in a cafe in Glasgow, just after Dad died. She was kind enough to share with me some memories. She talked about how the siblings would all sit round the dinner table together arguing merrily about trivial matters long into the evening. The photograph of her here captures it, that sense of fun, of joviality, but above all, of connection. Rest in Peace Aunt Alice, the last in line to rejoin the dinner table.

Very sad to hear of Aunt Alice's passing. She was such a lovely, positive lady, and so kind and welcoming of other family members into her house, in spite of her own hardships.
