Alice Hertha McWhorter, 85, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November, 30, 2011 in Roswell, New Mexico. Alice was born to Herschel Pope and Alice Thomas Pope on April 30, 1926 in Vandalia, Illinois. She attended Grace Community Church of Roswell, New Mexico.
Alice married Homer Ray McWhorter in Seattle, Washington on December 15, 1944. In late 1945, they moved to Austin, Texas and made their home there for fifty-five years. She and Homer were married for almost fifty six years when he passed away in April 2000.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and numerous brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Pinson McWhorter and his wife Donna; five grandchildren, Todd McWhorter and his wife Sally, Bethany Benavides and her husband Charles, Danielle Winningham and her husband, Michael, Kurt McWhorter, and Grant McWhorter; two great granddaughters, Sharadin and Caitlin McWhorter; other relatives; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011 with Funeral Services to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will be at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
