

She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances D. Pierce; her father, Edward A. Pierce Sr.; and her sister, Connie P. Harrold, all of Atlanta, Georgia.
Alice is survived by her husband, Hermann Vigil; her brother, Edward Pierce of Austin; her sons, Chris Richardson and his wife, Lisa, of Bastrop, Texas, and Joel Richardson and his wife, Jenny, of Huntington, New York. She is also blessed with three grandchildren, Sadie Richardson, Clara Richardson, and Ethan Richardson. She is further survived by her niece, Elizabeth V. Ratchford, her husband, Jack, and their sons, Declan and Finn, of Lutherville, Maryland, as well as her nephew, Michael Pierce of Austin, Texas.
Alice attended several elementary schools in the rapidly growing Atlanta of the 1950s, then Sandy Springs and Dykes High Schools, graduating as valedictorian. She earned both her BA in elementary education and MEd. from Emory University and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi.
Alice made her home in Austin, where she began her career working in the Austin Independent School District. She later earned her PhD from the University of Texas in speech-language pathology , where she also served as director of the Speech and Hearing Clinic for 28 years. After retiring into private practice, she continued helping children to speak, be heard, and be understood.
Alice practiced love continuously. She was fortunate to meet and marry Hermann Vigil, and for 32 years they shared a life rich in love, celebration, and travel around the world.
A student of the world’s religions, Alice made daily devotion both her practice and her teacher. She was a compassionate sister, mother, and grandmother who accepted everyone and offered love and light to every situation.
A memorial service will be held February 21, 2026 at 11am at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.
