Aline Williams Wynn Martin Aline Wynn Martin was born in Eastland county Texas on June 4, 1910, and passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2008. She was the third child of Jess and Willie Margaret Williams who predeceased her. Her older siblings, Faye Strait and Bert Williams also predeceased her. With the exception of a short time in Dallas, Aline grew up in the town of Eastland in West Texas. She graduated from Eastland High School in 1928 and entered the University of Texas where she lived in the new Littlefield Dormitory for women and joined Pi Beta Phi sorority. In 1931 Aline met a young electrical engineer from San Angelo. His name was Thomas Wynn. After a short courtship Tom and Aline were married in June of 1931. Tom's job took them to Big Spring in 1933. By this time they were a family of three, with baby daughter, Jean, having been born the previous fall. They had a good life and many wonderful friends in Big Spring, but when Tom was offered a job with the newly organized Lower Colorado River Authority, Tom accepted the position and in the fall of 1939, the family moved to Austin. They soon built their dream home in the new sub-division of Bryker Woods. The Wynns became active members of the University Methodist Church, attending the Hickman Sunday School Class for Men and the Bertha Casey Sunday School Class for women. They also were charter members of Bryker Woods Elementary School P.T.A. When World War II began Aline became a volunteer for the Civil Defense Program. She performed numerous jobs such as becoming an enemy plane spotter and issuing ration books for the government. She also was trained and certified by the Red Cross in emergency First Aid. In 1943 another baby girl, Judith, was born and Aline's busy life was devoted to her family and friends, church and volunteer work. Aline and a group of close friends formed a bridge club that continued meeting until 1998. Aline was the last surviving member of this group and even now she remains close friends with some of the member's children and grandchildren. Aline lost Tom to a massive heart attack in 1971. She continued to live in her Austin home but spent considerable time with her mother and sister who lived in Eastland. In 1972 she met Col. Marion Martin whose family had known Aline's family in Eastland many years earlier. Aline and Marion eventually married and lived busy and happy lives together in Austin. They bought a house and put their favorite furnishings together to make it a warm and lovely home. Naturally both of them had abundant mementos and keepsakes, so Aline turned a large walk-in closet into what she called their mini-museum. Her grandchildren were fascinated with the assortment of Marion's keepsakes from around the world and Aline's pictures, antique jewelry and a pair of high buttoned shoes. In 1974 Marion passed away, and once again, Aline found herself a widow. However with an abundance of wonderful friends and a loving family, Aline led a busy and happy life. She lived in her home alone and drove her car until the age of 90. At 90 she had an illness that required hospitalization, and she made her own decision to move into Westminster Manor instead of moving back to her home. She also made the decision to stop driving while she still had a perfect driving record. She renewed many old friendships while living in Westminster Manor as well as making many new ones. She continued to live in Westminster until the time of her death. Survivors include daughters Jean Wynn Doughtie and husband Venton and Judith Anderson Guy and husband Don; grandchildren Lee Doughtie and wife Dawnelle, Thomas Doughtie, Ashley Anderson Hammerich and husband Nils, James Anderson, and Jason Anderson; great- grandchildren include Elizabeth Doughtie and Phillip Doughtie and Wynn Doughtie and Lauritz Hammerich and Aleta Hammerich. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given by Dr. Nancy Foster and assistant Jennifer Tyson. Our deep thanks also go to the staff at Westminster Health Care Center and to the caregivers of Hospice Austin. For those wishing to honor her memory, the family will appreciate a donation to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
