September 28, 1932 – February 1, 2015
Allen Lockshin was born in Youngstown, OH, September 28, 1932 to Carl Lockshin and Dorothea Darsky. He spent most of his adult life in Houston, where he raised his family. He was the beloved husband to Arlene, the best father, ever, to Jody Lockshin, Kay Schnuriger and husband Rod, former father-in-law and friend to Jeff Plotkin. Allen's and Arlene's 57th wedding anniversary was on the day he passed away. Allen and Arlene moved to Austin in 2012 to be closer to their daughters. Due to a multitude of health issues, he spent his final years in Skilled Nursing at Buckner Villas- Campbell Center where he was available to repair computers for staff and residents, and often facilitated exercise classes.
Everyone will remember Allen for his humor, charm, generosity, perseverance and brilliance. He lived a full life; early in life working in the family soft-drink business, then as an entrepreneur, inventor and innovator, author, Realtor, Rotarian, substitute teacher, computer genius and friend to all who knew him. Allen loved helping people with their computers and spending time at the horse race track in Houston, solving crossword puzzles and playing Words with Friends, telling jokes, reading and studying history.
Allen had three remarkable siblings and their children: brother Bert Lockshin, who preceded him in death, wife Arlene and daughter Carol and her husband Jack Adelson of Florida, brother Robert Lockshin his wife Joyce of Florida and their son Curt and his wife Mary Lockshin of Massachusetts and sister Shirley Lerner her husband Stan and children Keith and wife Roberta, and daughter, Sharon of Florida.
Allen made the world a better place. He was a true mensch, with a sharp and witty mind until the end. The family would like to thank the staff at Buckner Villas and at North Austin Medical Center for their care.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015, at Temple Beth Shalom, 7300 Hart Lane, Austin, TX 78731, a reception to follow. In memory of Allen, the family welcomes donations to the charity of your choice.
