Well... what to say.. 
we met in 1997, my wife had a chance to work with Alma for Charity as volunteer. Well... we were alone in a foreign country, Alma and her family invited us for Thanksgiving and for Christmas... it have been hosted as part of the family.. and it was really really lovely.

Today... after almost 14 years... I was talking to my children about my wife experience with Alma... so... I was trying to find some news in Internet... and I found this...
Alma, let me tell you just this, to you and your family, I know you gave very much to people around you (strangers and family). You did a great job...
What I always felt... was that you would have never asked for anything... that was true love... love that great people can give... like Jesus, Buddha... people able to love without asking for anything.

My heart goes out to Alma's family--her blood kin and those who became her family over the years. She was one of the most positive, tireless, generous, and selfless people I ever had the honor of meeting. My heart breaks to know she has departed this mortal coil.

I met Alma years ago when I was news director and morning co-host with Kevin Connor at 107.1 KGSR. It was early December and I was looking ahead to Christmas and heard about the Christmas Bureau, an organization to which Alma gave her whole heart. The non-profit did all it could to give a good Christmas to deserving individuals and families (that had fallen on hard times) that could not be helped by any of the other holiday giving organizations.

Not only did KGSR employees "adopt" families and elderly individuals through the Christmas Bureau that year, we also ended up with a wonderful relationship annually helping Alma and the organization to raise funds and gifts along with our wonderful listeners.

Alma never lost hope that she would be able to give everyone on the Christmas Bureau list a little something for the holiday. And as far as I know--she always did.

Alma Cruz was everyone's mother, friend, sister, auntie, and grandmother. She loved people, a love that was palpable to anyone who had the honor of being in her orbit.

Alma, Austin was better for you being a part of it, and I will miss your light and love.

I just heard of Alma's passing on the news.  So sorry for your loss; she was a magnificent person.  I met her years ago through volunteering at the Christmas Bureau.  I was amazed each year how she worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was taken care of.  There will never be another one like her.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I can't even begin to express the saddness I feel of Alma's passing. She will be so missed by everyone that got the  privilege of meeting her, and she never met a stranger! She brought such joy to my life.  She was a remarkable woman that did so much for so many people and she always did it with a smile. Rarely did she not have a smile on that beautiful face of hers. She made me a better person. And I treasured her love and friendship. 

I'd like to think that she has met my mom and they are dancing an Irish Jig, 
It was good to see you Al, Carole, and her daughters that I had never met, her grandchildren and Luis today. I know that God needed another angel and so he opened his arms out to Alma. I know that she is at peace in his arms, but we sure do miss her here and I will  forever keep her close to my heart. Rest in Peace Alma.

Carole, its me, Julie, and I just wanted to let you know I feel your grief and sorrow, no one can ever take the place of your mother, and It will be difficult probably for the next 4 to 5 years, and although it never goes away, it won't hurt as much.  I lost my mom 4 years ago, and I thank GOD, I have my mother-in -law , Linda Govea, she's always there when I need her most, but I do miss my mom's  hugs and kisses, and just knowing she will be their right where I felt her ( at home ).  Well Carole, take care of yourself and your family, until we meet again, God Bless you always.

I knew Alma when I was with the Capital Area Volunteer Center and worked to supply the Christmas Bureau with volunteers.  We worked closely together for a few months each year and I know how hard she worked and how much she cared about meeting all the needs of the people who came to the Christmas Bureau for assistance.  She was always positive and completely dedicated to fulfilling her mission!  You would have thought that it was a paid position.....instead, it was completely volunteer in the years I knew her.  I admired and liked her very much and so sorry to learn of her passing.  My condolences to her family.



Luis & Family:
My heartfelt condolences to all of you.  Alma touched countless lives as the Director of the Christmas Bureau.  When I worked for the Housing Authority of Austin and as a home health social worker, she always said yes!  She allowed me to deliver or mail applications to your home and always greeted me with a great big hug.  And you, Luis, were always by her side helping her to be an angel on Earth.  She has left a legacy of love and will be missed.  



During the 20 + years I've known this wonderful lady, she was always doing for others. Even when Alma was in the hospital one time sick, I went to see her and she was making sure this certain family was being taken care of.  She made sure they had food, presents, and anything else.  She taught me to be thankful for what I do have instead of focusing on what I don't have.  Theres no doubt that Mrs. Alma's treasures are overflowing in Heaven!  You will be deeply missed, however, I know one day we will meet again.  Until then my friend, you will be in my heart.

Luis and kids....We, Bubba and Nancy Smith, along with our daughters Jody and Jamie have many wonderful memories from our softball days at Walnut Creek..and the many long hours that you and Alma spent with us and all the kids.....those were great times ..we are sending our love to all of you in this very diffficult time.....May God bless you .......8



Dear Alma,
It was an honor and a blessing to have gotten to share a small part of your incredible life.  You have left a lasting mark on many people including me. To have raised such a loving, kind daughter and grandsons is a remarkable task. I so admire that.  You and your family are truly an example of God's love shining through to others. Your smile and laughter will live on in our hearts.  I look forward to seeing you again one day. I pray for our loving Father to surround your family and friends by His love, comfort, and peace.

I was blessed to know Alma. 

She is and was the epitome of; unconditional love, loving nature towards all people, sincerely caring about others, giving of her time, love and energy to people and various organizations, working for the greater good in all her efforts, passion, compassion, selflessness, empathy, providing fun and laughter, ability to laugh at herself and life in general and a true example in what love and life is all about for her children, grandchildren and others. She is an inspiration and had a real gift in making people feel special and valued from what I observed.

We worked together at Maggie's Heart of Texas Dodge.  You were a surrogate grandmother to me, and you always had a kind word for me.  You went out of your way to make me feel at home in a new place.  All I had to do was say that I missed my grandma's cooking, and the next day, you would bring a big pot of fideo.

Austin lost a great deal of sunshine today. She shined as a very dear friend, wonderful matriarch, beautiful person, a grand lady who all respected and a very dear cousin to me. She will live in our hearts forever. Our deepest sympathy to the family which a very dear to me.  RIP our angel.

I like to believe that when we lose someone close to us they still live through us and give us strength. The time we have spent with those we've lost makes them part of us. We will all miss you...



Mrs. Cruz, 

I am sad to know that you are no longer physically with us, but glad to know that you will always be with us all in spirit. You brought nothing but happiness to all who knew you/met you and I your memory will always be cherished. I remember going to your house with Erika after school and hanging out with you and Mr. Cruz and sharing laughs! You were always so welcoming and it almost felt as if I too was a grandkid of yours. I remember how comfortable my mom felt chit chatting w you too. I am happy to know that such a strong and beautiful angel is going to be watching over Erika, baby Julian and all your family. 
Please know that you will always be remembered. We will miss you.
