

Almerie Sue Cowan was born in Sparks, Texas, to James Clifton Greeson and Gladys Jewel Joiner on August 23, 1936. She married the love her of life Donnie Ray Cowan, April 17, 1953. She peacefully passed away in her sleep on March 5, 2025, surrounded by family.
Throughout her adult years, she traveled the world with the US Air Force as she supported her husband. She spent her later years as a Lake Travis, Cedar Creek, and Brownwood, Texas, resident. She was a member of Cedar Valley Baptist Church in Elgin, Texas.
While stationed in North Carolina, she was a Cub Scout leader and worked in a local candy factory. After returning to central Texas, she was employed with Hart Graphics, preparing large orders for customer mailings. Once Donnie retired, they opened Four Points Bargain Barn and served the Lake Travis community with fresh bait, air mattresses, and any last-minute necessities for a day at the lake.
Sue loved God, her country, and her family. Her hobbies included playing dominoes, cards, Skip-Bo, and Bingo. She also enjoyed watching Mollie B Polka Party and hearing the slot machines jingle on a quick getaway to the casino.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of over 50 years, Donnie Ray Cowan; children, Debbie Sue Johnson and Donald Ray Cowan; siblings, Dorothy Stith, Wanda Glass, Clara “Janie” Jackson, Mae Davidson, Thomas “Jill” Greeson; and daughter-in-law Natalie Sand-Cowan.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Schmidt, Carroll Cowan (Sandra), and James Cowan; siblings, Paula Guidry (Jimmy) and Walter “Pete” Greeson (Rose); sister-in-law, Jean Greeson; daughter-in-love Sherry Parrish; and several nieces and nephews.
She was fortunate to be a grandmother to multiple generations, including; grandchildren Terry Johnson (Michelle), Donna Thompson (Jason), Sabrina Lawerence (David), Sally Gossett (Casey), Nicole Huebner (Steven), Kelly Andrews (Wayne), Devin Cowan (Corrie), Ashley Cowan, Chase Sand, Avary Grace Sand; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Luke, Tyler (Lillie), Katelyn, Kayleigh (Shawn), Kade, Karlee, Jordon (Dylin), Jacey (Dalton), Chase (Kira), Madison, Clayton, Avery, Lorelei; and great-great-grandchildren, Saylor, Parker, Cainen.
In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Sue Cowan may be sent to Oak Ridge Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehab – Activities Dept. 2501 Morris Sheppard Dr, Brownwood, TX 76801.
A visitation for Almerie will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX 78750. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills. After a brief intermission, burial will follow at 1:30PM at Preece Cemetery, Vaught Ranch Road, Austin, TX.
