

Amanda Walker Burleigh of Austin, formerly of Houston, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011. She was born on December 16, 1939 in Marlin, Texas to E.E. “Flash” and Martha Lou Bolinger Walker. Amanda was a longtime patron of the arts. In high school she acted in the Brazosport Little Theater where she met her husband, Ivan. She attended the University of Houston before marrying Ivan. She worked at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Glassell School for the Arts, Texas Opera Theater, and the Society for the Performing Arts. After she retired she used her talents to create lovely and fanciful hand drawn cards. She will be remembered for her sharp wit and feisty sense of humor.
Amanda is survived by her son, Matthew Burleigh of Baltimore, Maryland; her daughter, Shelly Burleigh Jackson and husband, Matt of Austin, Texas; her brothers, Bob Walker and wife, Linda, of Houston, Texas, and John Walker and wife, Sherri, of Carlsbad, California; her niece, Amanda Walker Carlstone and family; her nephews, Clint Walker and Johnny Walker; her favorite Turney cousins; her beloved and devoted friend, Mark Lagodinski; and her much loved and doted upon grandson, Drew Walker Jackson.
A graveside service will be held at Live Oak Cemetery in Austin on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the COPD Foundation at www.copdfoundation.org.
