Anita A. Almanza was received into the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday the twelfth of October 2011 at St. David’s Hospital, in Austin, Texas. She was born on the fifth of March 1927, in Rock Springs, Texas, to Santiago and Maria Ancira. She married Joe Almanza on the nineteenth of April 1953 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas. Their marriage was blessed with three sons: Joel, James and Jerry.
Anita was a devoted wife and mother, who was committed to her Lord, Jesus Christ, her children and family. Life brought many challenges to her. In her forties, she began to lose her eye sight and almost eleven years ago, due to her illness, she was fed through a feeding tube. In spite of these limitations, she continued to cook and attend to the affairs of her household until approximately three months ago. Anita was grounded in her Christian faith and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Despite her blindness, she was blessed to attend the ‘Walk to Emmaus,’ which greatly enhanced her walk with Christ. One of her great joys was to attend Sunday school and services at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She loved to listen and sing classic hymns and praise songs.
Besides her faith, Anita’s greatest joy was to care for her children, her granddaughters and the rest of her family. Anita was always ready to be of service to others. She was the principal caregiver to her parents and her aunt. Whenever there was a need, whether a family member or neighbor, she was always ready to serve. Anita was direct and not afraid to express her opinions. For many years, she took care of children at her home, including her own grandchildren and the children of her nephews.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Santiago and Maria Ancira; sister, Rosa A. Aleman and brother, Ross Ancira.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Almanza; sons, Joel Almanza, James Almanza and wife Liz, and Jerry Almanza. Anita is also survived by three granddaughters, Nikki Almanza, Melissa Almanza and Gabriela Almanza, along with five nephews and one niece.
