Anita Wilde Austin flew away with Angels on December 10, 2023, in Austin, Texas. She was the fourth of six girls born to Paul Albert Wilde and Hermine Frida Wilde (Becker) in Austin, Texas on December 27, 1926.
Anita graduated from Austin High School in 1945 and attended the University of Texas for two years. She spent her early career working for the Texas Highway Department and the end of her career working for G&S Typesetters in Austin. She married John Timmons Austin in August 1952 and their union brought two sons, John Wilde Austin and Mark Paul Austin.
Anita managed the household, children’s school activities and served in volunteer positions in her church. She was a loving, gentle, and strong woman that loved her family unconditionally. In the late 50’s and early 60’s Anita and her sisters would bring their families to her mother’s house in Austin for epic family Christmas gatherings. She and her sisters were best friends, whenever they were together there was sure to be coffee, talking and laughter until the wee hours of the morning. They enjoyed visiting and traveling to Canada and Europe. In later years her greatest joy was spending time with her sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to host holiday dinners, was an excellent cook, and set a magnificent table - often days in advance. She was a lifelong member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church and read her bible daily.
Preceding her in death were her father, Paul Albert Wilde, mother, Hermine Frida Wilde, son, Mark Paul Austin, and sisters Louise Parker, Paula Knowles, Nina VanEck, Eleanor Koppelman, and Margaret Bush. She is survived by her son, John Austin and wife Jean Austin, grandchildren John Jordan Austin, Christine Austin Flores and her husband Mike Flores, great grandchildren Samantha Flores and Hunter Flores, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is especially grateful for the loving care provided to her by caregivers Neuza, Maria, Shelley, and Isabel. We will miss her, her sweet temperament, and her laughter. Visitation will be at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress Avenue on Sunday, December 17th, from 2:00PM to 3:30PM. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on a date in the near future.
