Anita was born on November 13, 1940, in San Angelo, Texas, to Dr. David Hardeman and Mary Alice Weaver LeSeuer, and moved to Austin in 1942. After the death of her father, her mother married Curtis Anderson. She met a young man at Allan Jr. High School named William (Bill) Wappler and then attended Austin High School and was a proud member of the Austin High School Red Jackets. After graduating from Austin High School, they married in 1958 and enjoyed 67 years together. Together they built Wappler Electric, where Anita was the business manager. She was an avid fan of the Texas Longhorns, which led to her passion to raise Texas Longhorn cattle, including world champions. She served as a world-qualifying judge and was a member of Longhorn breeder associations.
Anita had a gift of connecting with people and showing them that she cared. She was a competitive bridge player with the same friends for more than 50 years, weaving in her classic storytelling. For many years, she worked at the University of Texas International Office, guiding hundreds of students and showing them love and care. She went on mission trips to Juarez, Mexico, working with Hands of Luke Medical Ministries and took her family to volunteer at the Salvation Army, including Christmas Eve. It was important for her to share the love of Jesus with others.
What she enjoyed most was spending time with her family, including daughter, Cindy Guinn, and son, Troy (Cindy) Wappler, grandchildren Brittany (Quinn) Guinn Massey, Brandon Guinn, McKenna (Cade) Wappler Crump, Caden and Weston Wappler, and great-grandchildren, Hadley and Harper Massey. Her family also included her beloved sister, Mary Harde (Ron) LeSueur Root and her family.
Anita was the queen of celebrations, which included commemorating our country with fireworks, parades, singing patriotic songs, and waving flags. She also required us to sing carols while holding candles at Christmas. Another tradition was the annual Easter celebration at the ranch with barbecue, piñatas, and an egg tossing contest. Tradition was important to her.
Anita will be deeply missed, and her family and friends will carry her memory forward through the stories, traditions, and love she showed to others.
Her celebration of life will be held on May 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Austin Baptist Church, 7016 Ribelin Ranch Drive, Austin, Texas, 78750. She will be laid to rest at Smith Cemetery at School Creek in Lampasas, Texas, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hands of Luke Medical Ministries: www.handsofluke.org or Hands of Luke, 11184 Voyager Cove Drive, El Paso, Texas 79936
