

Ann was a Rio Grande Valley girl, born and raised in McAllen, Texas on April 26, 1932. She graduated as Valedictorian from McAllen High School in 1949. She continued her education at Trinity University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1953. At Trinity she was a member of several honor societies: Theta Sigma, Alpha Chi & Kappa Pi Sigma. She was an active member of Spurs, one of the oldest organizations at Trinity. Ann was elected class officer and class favorite.
Following graduation, she met and married Jim Laughlin, also from the Rio Grande Valley. Ann and Jim were married in August, 1953 living their early years in various places across the country wherever Jim's engineering job took them. In 1961, they settled in Richardson, Texas where they raised their children. Ann stayed busy supporting her children by serving in PTA, as classroom mom, a scout leader, and cheering them on in all of their school sports and activities. When her children were older she was office manager for Marsha Hohman dress shop. She was also active in their church life at 1st Presbyterian Church Richardson and 1st Presbyterian Church Dallas in Sunday School, where life-long friendships were made. Those bonds took them on vacations and trips, including Ghost Ranch, Mo Ranch and YMCA of the Rockies. She was a member of the Dallas chapter of American Society of Civil Engineer Wife's Club and served as president in 1972-73. Ann and Jim enjoyed many years of supper club with good friends.
In 1995, Ann and Jim retired to Ingram and later Kerrville where they were active at 1st Presbyterian Church of Kerrville. She served as a Board member of Kerrville Riverside Nature Center and managed the gift shop for several years. Ann was a member of the Republican Women of Kerr County, the Schreiner Alliance and was a charter member HM – P.E.O. She enjoyed being a part of Lunch Bunch, Day Trippers and playing Rummikub with close friends.
In 2014, they moved to Austin where she was a member of the Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed living in Austin where she was near children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was delighted by her 7 grandchildren and 5great-grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents Horace and Evelyn Etchison and her brother Bobby Etchison. She is survived by her husband James E. Laughlin; her sister Sue Etchison Meek; and her children Brad Laughlin (Aimee) Austin, TX, Lynn Lish (Mike) Prosper, TX and Dana Lochner (John) Lake Elmo, MN; 7 grandchildren: Taylor Wilson, James Laughlin, Katie Telschow, Kim Dierks, Bobby Lish, Emily Diggs and Lydia Eikevik; and 5 great grandchildren: Evan, Clara and Philip Telschow, Charlotte Minicucci and Camille Wilson.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm on February, 19th at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in her name to the Kerrville Riverside Nature Center at 150 Francisco Lemos St, Kerrville, TX 78028.
