Anna was born on July 30, 1934 in Long Beach, California, to Agnes and Elmer Jackson. She graduated Valedictorian from the Masonic Home School in Fort Worth Texas in 1949, and received a full scholarship to attend the University of Texas.
It was at the University of Texas where she met her husband, Olan Ray Brewer. They were married in 1953 and had celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary prior to his death in 2007.
She graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor’s of Journalism in 1953 and a Teaching Certificate, as well as being named an Outstanding Journalism Major. She received a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in 1980, a Master’s of Library Science in 1983, and was selected as a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Anna started her career at Humble Oil and Refining Company as a writer, and then later became an educator and elementary school librarian. She did her student teaching at McCallum High School, was a former instructor at the University of Texas in the School of Business, and was the former school librarian at Pillow, Zavala and Lee Elementary Schools.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished friend. Her love of books was profound and she loved sharing that passion with her grandchildren and students. Anna and Olan were avid UT fans, attending more than 60 UT-OU games in a row, and enjoyed traveling the world with friends and family.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Austin, a former member of The Headliner’s Club of Austin, the Austin Club, the Austin Country Club and the Austin Civic Ballet Guild.
She is survived by her son, Travis Brewer and wife, Elorra, daughter, Pamela Hanson and her husband Bill, grandchildren, Heather Jackman, Jack Brewer, Amanda Harden, Miles Hanson, Holly Anna Brewer and Kemper Ray Brewer; great-grandchildren Skylar Brewer, Lila Brewer, Emmy Jackman, her long-time faithful caregiver, Janie Herrera, and her beloved dog, Jasmine.
Memorial service will be held at 3:30pm on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
