Born July 31, 1923, to Romanian immigrant parents in Gary, Indiana, Anne grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where her father was the manager of a store. Her mother died when Anne was three. In high school in Chicago, Anne met the love of her life, Robert F. Glaves, a handsome fellow who would become a Navy pilot in the Pacific in World War II. They married in 1942 and lived for a while in Oklahoma where both attended the University of Oklahoma; Anne received her bachelor's degree from Phillips University after Bob took a position in Enid, Oklahoma. They settled in Dallas in 1957 where Bob worked as a sports writer for the Dallas Morning News. Bob and Anne moved to San Marcos in 1978 when Bob joined the faculty of the journalism department of Texas State University (then Southwest Texas State).
While in Dallas, Anne delighted in her work with an interior designer, and the skills she honed were apparent everywhere she lived. Anne was also an exceptionally skilled needlepoint artist. A popular and engaging hostess, Anne was long active in various organizations at Texas State and with a group of bridge-playing friends.
Anne was predeceased by her parents, her husband (in 1985), and an infant son.
For the last two, Anne has lived in Austin, Texas, having been welcomed into the family of Frank and Kathleen Niendorff and their sons, Davis and William, who will all miss her very much.
She is also survived by her Goddaughter Gennilu Carroll and husband David of Houston and their children, Courtney, Beth, and David. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Robert F. Glaves scholarship fund at Texas State University. Her survivors particularly wish to thank the staff of Arden Courts for their tender care of this precious woman in her last months.
Anne died on Monday, December 16, 2013. Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013, at 2 PM at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
