Anne Greenway, 87, beloved wife and mother, passed away on October 31, 2026, in Austin, Texas. Anne is survived by her husband, Herb Schwetman, son John Greenway (Suzanne), daughter Jenifer Greenway and son, James Greenway (Heather). Surviving grandchildren include Taylor Greenway, Thomas Greenway, Ashleigh Greenway, Grace Greenway and Fletcher Greenway. Anne is preceded in death by her husband, Don Greenway, MD and brother, Andrew Pickens Wade, Jr.
Anne was born in Decatur, Georgia to Andrew and Frances Wade. She attended Druid Hills High School, where she was a member of the school’s newspaper publication and the Teen Fashion Board. Despite her parent’s protests, Anne applied to Southern Methodist University for her college education. Having only spent a short time away from her family previously, Anne eagerly made her way to Dallas, Texas, to attend SMU. She quickly made friends, joining the Chi Omega Sorority, and she was chosen to be the 1959 Lambda Chi Sweetheart. Several lifelong friends introduced her to the first love of her life, Don Greenway, who was attending the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School to later become an orthopedic surgeon.
Anne and Don married in Atlanta, Georgia on June 30, 1962, and returned to Dallas, Texas to start their new life together. Don completed his Orthopedic Fellowship at UTSW Medical School, and they moved with their first child to Austin, Texas. Despite being a busy wife and mother, Anne enjoyed her volunteer participation with the Junior League of Austin and the Junior Helping Hand Home for Children. She was an avid attendee and benefactor of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Austin Women’s Symphony League. She was eventually recruited to be the Symphony Designer Showhouse Chairman. Following this successful event, Anne served on the Austin Symphony Board and on various committees of the WSL for more than twenty years.
Anne was a true social butterfly and was happiest when surrounded by people, laughter, and a full calendar. Being a vibrant hostess extraordinaire with excellent preparation, cooking and wine serving skills, she embraced and loved entertaining friends and family, and hosting events for many nonprofit organizations in Austin. She also enjoyed her time with her book club, dance club, and many supper club groups. Family beach trips were a very special time for her to spend quality time with those she loved most. She lived a full life and was always ready for the next outing, trip, or celebration.
Anne was bestowed with many qualities of a southern belle, exuding grace, charm and style. Beautiful both inside and out, she was also fiercely supportive of her family and her faith. As a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Anne served in various leadership roles, as both a Deacon and Elder, during her more than fifty years of attendance. It is her faith that helped guide her through many storms, the most impactful being the loss of her husband, Don Greenway, in October of 2013. Faith, family, and friends supported her through the difficult transition, and then she was blessed with a new beginning to the final chapter of her life with her current husband, Herb Schwetman. The Greenway family is forever grateful to Herb for being a supportive companion, a fun traveling partner, and in recent years, a devoted caretaker. We would also like to thank the staff of Clearwater at the Arboretum and the hospice team at Kindful Health for their compassionate care.
Known to her children and grandchildren as Angel, she is no doubt carrying forward with her tasks of love and protection. Cherished by all, she will be missed but never forgotten.
A service will be held in Anne’s memory at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 23rd at 2:00, with a reception to follow at Westwood Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations and remembrances be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
