Arval Wendell Bohn slipped peacefully from this life at his home in West Lake Hills on March 17, 2016. He was one of what seems to be very few people these days who was actually born in Austin, TX. That happened 81 years ago on July 6, 1934 on Judges Hill in the home of his parents Walter and Frieda Rathmann Bohn.
His early years were spent at Pease Elementary, University Junior High and as a proud Austin High Maroon! His history at the University of Texas was a quick 2.5 years even earning a Masters Degree in Mathematics before heading to Berkeley in California to teach students barely younger than he was. His teaching career gave him the opportunity to see the country including Peru, NE, New Orleans, LA and Saratoga Springs, NY, during the only years he lived outside of Austin.
Upon his return to Austin he was active in several organizations; helping to start the Austin Runner's Club, participating in Mensa, and instrumental in the Atheist Community of Austin.
In his later years he would walk the Austin Hike and Bike trail as well as his West Lake Hills neighborhood. Day trips to state parks, enjoying food adventures and taking in various movies filled his time.
He will be missed by many loving friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his brother Conrad Bohn of Austin, 2 nieces, 2 nephews and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday March 22 from 5-7 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish, 3125 N Lamar Blvd in Austin. Arval was not one to enjoy cut flowers. A more lasting option, that he would have appreciated more, would be making a donation to a non-religious charity in his name, if you choose.
