

Aubrey Gene Brawley, age 94 of Austin, Texas passed away July 24, 2023. Gene was born November 20, 1928 in Wilson, Oklahoma to Audrey and N. W. Brawley. As a teenager the family moved to Panhandle, Texas where Gene graduated from high school in 1947. Gene served in the Army from 1950-1952 in the Korean war.
Gene married Theresa Louise Forrest July 6, 1955 in Borger, Texas. They were married for 68 years. They had three children; Richard Dean Brawley, Carole Jean Strange, and Linda Gail Brawley.
Gene’s career was a Linotype operator for the newspaper industry. After working in Borger and Amarillo he and Theresa settled in Austin, Texas. He ended his newspaper career with the Austin American Statesman when he retired at the age of 60. He was a longtime resident of Rollingwood. His hobbies included motor boats, automobiles and a few motorcycle rides. He also enjoyed daily walks in his Rollingwood neighborhood.
He is preceded in death by his parents and infant son Richard, and younger sister Charlene.
Gene is survived by his wife, Theresa; his daughters Carole (Rick); Linda, older sister Elwanda Barnett. Granddaughters Katie (David) Jones, Susan (Andrew) Green and 3 great grandsons, niece Janice Willette, nephew Patrick Kelly, and many cousins.
There will be a memorial service Monday, July 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home 5416 Parkcrest Dr. Austin TX 78731
