August was born March 1, 1923, in San Antonio, Texas, to August and Annie (Kallus) Mitchon. He attended St. Rose Parochial School and graduated from Schulenburg High School. After graduation he attended Durham Business School in Austin, then went to work as a bookkeeper for McMurray Oil Co. in Houston. From there, he returned to Austin and went to work for the Texas Unemployment Compensation Commission until his retirement in 1982. He served in the Army and the Air Force from February 1943 to November 1945. He married Earline Grasshoff in October 1942.
In his retirement years, August enjoyed woodworking, oil painting and gardening.
August is survived by his daughter Carol Crooks and husband Dr. Roger Crooks, son Dr. August James Mitchon and wife Vanessa, four Grandchildren, three Great-grandchildren and extended family of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond, sister Patricia, one Great-grandson and loving wife Earline.
Visitation will be at Cook-Walden/Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin Texas. Saturday, October 14 from 10:00-11:30 am.
Graveside service will be at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Schulenburg, Texas; Saturday, October 14 at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Austin, Texas; St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Schulenburg, Texas or a charity of your choice.
