Augustine “Tino” Cuellar, Jr., First Sergeant, U.S. Army (Ret.), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother was born in Lockhart, Texas on May 14, 1931 and passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the age of 82.
Tino joined the U.S. Army at the age of 18 years old, on August 2, 1949. He proudly served his country for 22 years, retiring on August 31, 1971. His service included time in Korea (1953 to 1955); West Germany (1959 to 1962); two tours of duty in Vietnam (1966 to 1967 and 1969 to1970). He was awarded three Bronze Stars and one Army Commendation medal for his service in the Vietnam War. He was awarded two Army Commendation Medals for his service at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He also received the Expert Marksmen Badge while stationed in Germany. After his military service he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 21 years, retiring in December, 1992.
Tino was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Austin, including membership in the Society of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Knights of Columbus Council 10209, the 4th degree in the Bishop Reicher Assembly, and the Golden Hearts Club.
Tino was preceded in death by his parents, Augustin E. Cuellar and Matiana Mayo Cuellar; and sister, Amalia Zamara.
Tino is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Guadalupe (Lupe Granado) Cuellar; sons, David Cuellar and wife, Rhonda, and Tony Cuellar; daughters, Lena C. Stoops and husband, Craig, Annette Blair and husband, Patrick, and Christina Cuellar; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; also brother, Concepcion Cuellar and wife, Anita; sisters, Guadalupe C. Reyna, Esther Cuellar and Margarita (Margie) Cuellar, and Helen C. Quintero and husband, Manuel.
The Cuellar Family especially wishes to thank Dr. Laurence Tokaz, M.D. and the staff at Texas Oncology South Austin for their tremendous support, guidance and sensitivity over the past couple of years. During this challenging time, our family could not have summoned the strength to face each and every day without your valuable assistance.
The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 10,000 David Moore Drive with Recitation of the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery at 14501 N. IH-35 in Pflugerville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Tino to the American Cancer Society.
