On May 23, 2015 Barbara Brubaker died at home. In her final week she was able to spend time with all five of her daughters. Barbara was born on September 14, 1928 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to Josip and Mary Pausic. At a young age she moved to Washington D.C. to work for the government. Her job soon took her to Okinawa, Japan where she met a young serviceman named Wayne Brubaker. They were married in 1950 and were together for the next 62 years. Her life with Wayne took her from Oklahoma to Louisiana, down to Bogota, Columbia and finally to Texas. In all of that moving around she managed to raise five wonderful daughters. When those daughters were grown Barbara and Wayne moved to Hilltop Lakes, Texas where they were active in their community and had many friends.
Barbara will be missed by her children Christine Brubaker of Austin, Karen Powell and husband Charles of Norman, OK, Carol Brubaker of Houston, Mary Pawlowski and husband Brett of Charlotte, NC, Patricia Smith and husband Patrick of Austin; her grandchildren Erin Williford and husband Jon, Nate and Sarah Smith, Tom and Matt Pawlowski; and great-grandchildren Jackson and Lily Williford. She is also survived by her siblings John Pausic, Rosemary Jesion, Loraine Davies, Ann Galioto, Mary Hamner and Veronica Szpanka. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents and her siblings Joseph Kolich, Frank Kolich, Mary Luketich, Kathy Mayer, Michael Pausic and Matt Pausic.
A Funeral Mass for Barbara will be held at 10:00 am on May 30th at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Austin followed by a gathering of friends and family at her home.
Barbara’s family would like recognize and thank the many people at Hospice Austin and Meals on Wheels and More who helped care for her so she could remain at home with her family.
