On Friday December 18, 2015, Barbara Jean Fulton, 82, of Lago Vista, TX, passed away peacefully, holding her daughters hand, at Hospice Austin's Christopher House. Preceding her death she was surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Barbara was born on March 18, 1933 in Honolulu, Hawaii where she lived for 10 years and often recounted the experience of the Pearl Harbor Attacks. She graduated from Sequoia Union High School, located in Redwood City, CA where she was a cheerleader and member of the drama club. In 1952 she married Robert Leroy Fulton. She and Bob raised their family in Lakeport, CA and owned Lakeport Furniture Store. She moved to Austin, TX in 1974, where she worked for the Texas Air Control Board and as an Executive Assistant for Radian Corporation and Dow Chemical Corporation. Over her lifetime she formed and developed many meaningful and lasting friendships.
Barbara was an avid reader and spent her retirement years volunteering at the Lago Vista Public Library. In her 50's she purchased a 25 foot Catalina sailboat that she learned to sail and spent countless weekends navigating the waters of Lake Travis. She enjoyed gardening, writing, music, and most recently discovered a talent for painting. Barabara, also known as Mimi to family, loved spending time with her children and made a specific point to spend one on one time with each of her most precious and beloved grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Alice (Camara) and Dorren Unger; her son, Robert Scott Fulton; and daughter, Kathy Lynn Fulton-Pettit.
Survivors include her son, Steven L. Fulton and his wife Leslie; daughters, Leann C. Travis and her husband Keith, Laurel E. Carroll and her husband Ben. Barbara also leaves behind six grandchildren, Cecelia Vina, Brandon Medina, Jantzen O'Connor, Spirit Hayter, Laine and Jack Travis and one great-grandchild, Hailey Vina. Her brother, Dorren Unger and his wife Uda, and nephew, Dirk Unger.
A memorial service will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr., Austin, TX, Saturday, January 16, at 2:00 PM. Reception to follow.
She was an inspiration and touched the hearts of many in her wonderful, funny, creative, and loving way. She will be deeply missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, Barbara asked that memorials be given to American Cancer Society.
