Barbara Ann "Bobbie" Templeton Harmon, 80, left this world just before midnight on April 17th, 2013, surrounded by most of her beloved family. She was ushered into Heaven while her family sang one of her favorite processional hymns.
Bobbie was born during the Great Depression on May 31st, 1932 in Akron, Ohio. She was the only child of Ruth Iona and Charles Richard Templeton. Charles owned Akron Mirror and Glass Company, and Ruth was a homemaker. Bobbie grew up friends with the Firestone and Colgate families and enjoyed all aspects of her youth.
Bobbie married her husband, J.E. "Phil" Harmon on June 4th, 1955 at the United States Naval Academy. Throughout their 42 year marriage, they lived in multiple places on the eastern seaboard and Texas, finally settling down in Cape Coral, Florida where they finished raising their children. Bobbie worked as a Real Estate agent and Office Manager, and ultimately in the healthcare industry before retiring after Phil went to his heavenly home in 1997.
In 1998 Bobbie moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana to live with her daughter Susan and son-in-law Jerry. There she began the work of helping to raise three of her grandchildren. They lived as one family for the last 15 years of Bobbie's life. During this time, Bobbie was a 'reverse snowbird', travelling back to Florida to visit her family and friends every summer.
She was raised an Episcopalian and had an encounter with Jesus that changed her life at a Cursillo weekend in 1978. She was recently confirmed by the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Austin. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind and strength. She cared for many poor and broken people, always drawn to the underdog. She loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. A good friend to all, she was always willing to help her loved ones in whatever ways she could.
Bobbie was a beautiful, loving and strong woman with an unshakeable faith and deep, quiet trust in God. She had an eye for beauty and enjoyed painting, knitting, and reading.
